Position Summary

The Maintenance Assistant supports the Maintenance Leadman in performing preventive maintenance, equipment repairs, facility maintenance, housekeeping, parts organization, and other daily maintenance activities.

This position reports directly to the Foudry Supervisor and receives daily work instructions and guidance from the maintenance lead. This position will help ensure that maintenance work is completed safely, efficiently, and properly documented. The Maintenance Assistant does not supervise employees or direct production operations.

Pay Scale: $21.00 - $23.00/hr (depending on experience).

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

• Assist the Maintenance Leadman and maintenance technicians with equipment repairs and preventive maintenance.
• Perform basic mechanical repairs and maintenance tasks within the employee’s training and authorization.
• Help inspect equipment and report unusual noises, leaks, overheating, damage, wear, or unsafe conditions.
• Assist with troubleshooting mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, cooling-water, and facility systems.
• Gather the tools, replacement parts, supplies, manuals, and equipment needed for maintenance work.
• Help prepare work areas before repairs and clean the areas after work is completed.
• Lubricate equipment, replace filters, tighten hardware, clean components, and perform other assigned preventive‑maintenance tasks.
• Assist during planned equipment shutdowns and emergency repairs.
• Help move, install, remove, or relocate equipment and machine components.
• Assist outside vendors and contractors while they are working in the facility, as directed by the Maintenance Leadman.
• Maintain maintenance tools and return them to their designated storage locations after use.
• Help organize spare parts, hardware, electrical components, supplies, and maintenance storage areas.
• Notify the Maintenance Leadman when parts or supplies are running low.
• Help receive, identify, label, and store maintenance parts and supplies.
• Maintain good housekeeping in the maintenance shop, storage areas, equipment rooms, rooftops, and work areas.
• Remove scrap material, used parts, packaging, spills, and other debris following company disposal procedures.
• Provide the Maintenance Leadman with accurate information about completed work, parts used, equipment conditions, and additional repairs needed.
• Assist with documenting preventive maintenance, repairs, inspections, equipment downtime, and parts usage.
• Respond to maintenance requests according to the priorities established by the Maintenance Leadman or Foundry Manager.
• Communicate with operators before beginning work and after equipment is ready to return to service.
• Perform other maintenance-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

• High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
• Previous experience in maintenance, manufacturing, construction, automotive repair, or a related field is preferred.
• Basic knowledge of hand tools and power tools.
• Basic mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn.
• Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
• Ability to work safely around industrial machinery, furnaces, electrical equipment, and production operations.
• Ability to communicate equipment problems and completed work clearly.
• Basic ability to identify and organize tools, parts, and maintenance supplies.
