Maintenance Technician / Mechanic
REPORTS TO:
Preventive Maintenance Supervisor
The primary objective of this position is to be the technical expert at the deck plate level helping prevent the failure of equipment and to preserve and enhance performance of equipment. Provides technical support and training to the level I and II, while assisting the Supervisor in day-to-day operations. Ensures that preventive maintenance activities are completed according to defined schedules aimed at the prevention of breakdowns and failures.
Preventive maintenance activities include equipment checks, oil changes, lubrication and so on. Ensures that PM activities including but not limited to making physical rounds of the ship(s), modules, and warehouses are performed and completed in accordance established guidelines and policies.
- Conducts preventive maintenance according to a schedule of planned maintenance actions aimed at the prevention of breakdowns and failures.
- Works from limited documentation, schematics, diagrams, notes, production prints and layouts.
- Establish a maintenance schedule, then plan and conduct that maintenance IAW the established schedule.
- Perform equipment checks, oil changes, lubrication, and other preventive procedures.
- Record equipment conditions including but not limited to deterioration and corrosion.
- Follow established procedures, manufacturer’s technical manuals, instructions and pre-established guidelines to schedule, plan, and perform the functions of the job.
- Ensure systems readiness for activation
- Understanding of PM principles.
- Offer guidance and mentorship to junior staff, promoting development and knowledge sharing
EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum of five (5) years’ maintenance/safety/mechanical/operational/install experience in a shipyard, marine, aerospace, or offshore oil and gas environment required.
- Maintenance training equivalent to two (2) years technical trade school or military technical school, and/or Navy, Coast Guard, or Merchant Mariner experience will be considered in lieu of work experience
- Current knowledge of OSHA Lockout /Tagout requirements and US Navy Work Authorization Form (WAF) procedures.
- Internal hire – Complete understanding of POS 103, 126, 127 and 130.
- Beginning knowledge of IFS.
- External hire - Basic knowledge of CMS systems, procedures in maintenance checks on high value equipment such as reduction gears, propulsion diesels, gas turbines.
- Knowledge of ship equipment operations. Able to coordinate with assigned personnel to operate equipment to complete PM checks.
- Demonstrated troubleshooting skills required.
- Demonstrated understanding of shipboard equipment such as pumps, motors, diesels, generators, winches, deck equipment and any other maintainable items.
- Demonstrates ability to read and understand ship construction drawings and testing Procedures required.
- Ability to make decisions that are safe and protective of expensive machinery.
- Experience in ensuring equipment readiness for installation or operation and operation of marine equipment required.
- Ability to read, understand, and fill out engineering logs required.
- Good knowledge of shipbuilding processes and operational principles required.
- Prior Navy, Coast Guard, or Merchant Mariner experience extremely beneficial.
