POSITION SUMMARY

The primary responsibility of the Housekeeper is to maintain a safe and clean environment under the direction and supervision of the Housekeeping Supervisor.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Performs day-to-day housekeeping functions and specific tasks in accordance with daily work assignments and established cleaning schedules.
  • Cleans and polishes furnishings, fixtures, ledges, and heating/cooling units in offices, conference rooms, breakrooms, lobbies, and common areas as instructed.
  • Cleans, washes, sanitizes, and polishes restroom fixtures; cleans windows and mirrors in offices, common areas, restrooms, and entrance/exit ways.
  • Cleans floors and carpets, to include dry/damp/wet mopping, stripping, waxing, buffing, disinfecting, vacuuming, shampooing, and deodorizing. (

    Ensures that appropriate caution/safety signs are properly set up prior to performing such duties.)
  • Cleans walls, ceilings, and other surfaces by washing, wiping, dusting, and spot cleaning; cleans vacant offices and work spaces as assigned.
  • Discards waste/trash into proper containers daily in accordance with established sanitation procedures, relines receptacles with plastic liners, and discards infectious wastes into appropriate containers.
  • Follows established safety precautions and proper techniques when using equipment, chemicals, disinfectants, and cleaning solutions, and follows established policies governing the use of labels and Safety Data Sheets (SDS).
  • Wears and uses appropriate personal protective equipment and safety supplies, follows established hand washing procedures, and maintains universal precaution practices; participates in required training prior to performing tasks that involve potential exposure to blood, body fluids, or hazardous chemicals.
  • Reports all accidents/incidents (on the shift in which they occur), hazardous conditions or equipment, missing or improperly labeled containers of hazardous chemicals, and burned out lights to the supervisor as soon as practical.
  • Ensures that assigned work areas are free of hazardous objects and that equipment, tools, and supplies are cleaned and properly stored at all times, including before breaks, meal times, and at the end of the shift.
  • Maintains an adequate supply of housekeeping supplies in utility/janitorial closets and keeps the supervisor informed of supply needs.
  • Ensures that the building is maintained in a clean, safe, and comfortable manner.
  • Maintains the confidentiality of all business information encountered while performing duties; knocks before entering occupied offices, respects employees' personal property, informs employees when it is necessary to move their personal possessions, and turns in all found articles.
  • Attends departmental and staff meetings, in-service educational classes, on-the-job training, and annual company in-service training programs (e.g., OSHA, Safety, etc.), and participates in department studies and projects as directed.
