Position Overview
The Two Rivers YMCA is looking for an experienced part‑time Maintenance Worker for the day shift (20‑25 hours per week). Pay starts at $15.00 an hour and may increase based on experience.
The role requires knowledge of hand tools, power tools, various types of mowers, snow blowers, and general maintenance equipment. Familiarity with swimming pools, boilers, pumps, and motors is a plus but not required.
Workers will use the work order system to troubleshoot and resolve issues at multiple YMCA locations, travelling as needed. Reliable transportation is required.
Key Responsibilities- Assist with maintaining the buildings and grounds at the Main YMCA facility, Rock Island YMCA, Bass Street YMCA, Kewanee YMCA, Golf Center, and Spirit Mind and Body Center.
- Mow lawns, operate weed eaters, remove snow, apply salt, perform building and equipment repairs, and paint surfaces.
- Monitor and assist in maintaining water quality of the aquatic facilities.
- Monitor the energy management program as directed.
- Maintain the comprehensive maintenance schedule as directed.
- Maintain accurate records.
- Attend all staff meetings and training events as directed.
- Maintain a professional image of the YMCA in the YMCA and in the community.
- Relate to contractors providing services at the YMCA.
- When directed by a supervisor, make needed purchases and order supplies.
- Communicate effectively with staff and members.
- Set up and take down rooms for activities as directed.
- Perform physical tasks such as standing, walking, using hands to handle objects, reaching, crouching, lifting up to 25 pounds regularly, up to 50 pounds frequently, and up to 100 pounds occasionally.
- High school diploma or GED and five years of maintenance experience.
- Ability to read and interpret safety rules, policy manuals, operating and maintenance instructions, and to write routine reports and correspondence.
- Proficiency in basic mathematics, including calculations of discounts, interest, proportions, and percentages.
- Ability to follow written, oral, and diagrammatic instructions and solve problems involving several concrete variables.
- CPR/AED certification for infant, child, and adult; blood borne pathogens; hazard communication; valid driver’s license and car insurance if driving for the YMCA.
- Competence on a computer.
- Required training in basic electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and pool chemistry.
- Experience with pool filter equipment and various tools.
- Regular standing, walking, and use of hands; occasional sitting.
- Lifting and moving up to 25 pounds regularly, up to 50 pounds frequently, and up to 100 pounds occasionally.
- Working near moving mechanical parts, in high or precarious places, outside weather conditions, and with fumes, chemicals, extreme temperatures, electrical shock or vibration.
- Noise level usually moderate, sometimes loud.
- Chemicals such as toxic and caustic substances may be encountered.
