Position Summary

The Emissions Technician ensures that compression units operate safely and comply with all emission requirements. He/she develops and maintains customer relationships and follows all company procedures.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Complete emission reports legibly, detailing data according to Kodiak policies and submitting them to the Emissions Administrator timely.
  • Complete service reports for O2 sensor or component changes and after quarterly emission tests.
  • Submit expense reports per Kodiak guidelines.
  • Ensure all assigned units are emission tested quarterly or inspected for further maintenance to achieve passing results.
  • Confirm required data collection is correct and complete.
  • Ensure emission controls are installed and operating correctly.
  • Perform/schedule an Initial Compliance Test (ICT) when a unit starts up.
  • Pre‑test units prior to state‑mandated tests.
  • Be on site for every state test.
  • Test each unit for 15 minutes each quarter or as required.
  • Tune engines within permit limits.
  • Tune 2‑sensor rich‑burn engines.
  • Replace, clean, and service catalytic components on engines with 400hp or less; assist with larger engines as needed.
  • Notify Operations when an engine shows mechanical problems causing a no‑pass test and provide recommendations.
  • Follow‑up on tests when units are out of compliance.
  • Spend one day per week preparing and submitting reports.
  • Service trucks once per month.
  • Communicate weekly with supervisor on compliance issues and schedule updates.
  • Maintain the Testo analyzer and calibration gases.
  • Maintain communications with Operations and customers.
  • Ensure proper permit limits for equipment based on location, area, state, and federal guidelines.
  • Attend all company safety and training programs, required tailgate safety meetings, and assist in reviewing/updating safety policies.
  • Report all safety hazards and incidents to Supervisor or Manager.
Education, Experience & Training
  • 0–1 year in natural gas compression or related experience.
  • OEM, trade school, or comparable work experience in a related field/industry.
  • Day‑to‑day job completion with minimal supervision.
  • Strong mechanical intuition or ability.
  • Comprehension of OEM and technical manuals.
  • Operation of commercial vehicles and cranes.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Communication and customer service skills.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Microsoft Office suite proficiency.
  • Positive attitude and high energy.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
Physical Demands
  • May require overtime, extended or non‑traditional hours.
  • Stand or walk on uneven terrain, climb stairs and ladders, stoop, squat, crawl as directed.
  • Exposed to extreme temperatures, weather conditions, and environments on a location‑by‑location basis.
  • High noise environment (>85dBA); ear protection required.
  • Potential controlled exposure to hazardous chemicals.
  • Lift up to 50lb.
  • Stand, kneel, bend, squat, twist for long periods.
  • Climb ladders up to 25ft.
  • Use common hand tools related to job needs.
