Position: MTUD SEASONAL LABORER (DEPARTMENT OF UTILITIES)

MTUD SEASONAL LABORER (DEPARTMENT OF UTILITIES)

General Description:

This is a temporary part-time seasonal position which under close supervision performs a wide variety of tasks in support of the water and sewer collection and distribution systems including to perform any and all miscellaneous functions in support of the buildings, grounds, motorized fleet and equipment maintenance as necessary. Performs other related duties as required.

NOTE:

Duties Include But Are Not Limited To:

  • Repairs of water & sewer mains;
  • Installation and repairs of water & sewer service to residents;
  • Repair and replace fire hydrants;
  • Perform routine maintenance on motor vehicles and equipment;
  • Operate construction power & hand tools, non-powered hand tools, etc.;
  • Install protection boxes for water & sewer system;
  • Flush fire hydrants;
  • Filling out daily work orders;
  • Wash down detention tanks and grit chambers;
  • Perform & assist in routine maintenance and operation of the water & sewer system;
  • Handle numerous general labor functions i.e. housekeeping, yard maintenance, inventory control, painting, cleaning, etc;
  • May frequently work in adverse weather conditions;
  • May be required to work overtime as required and be subject to call in for emergencies;
  • Performs other routine and on-call duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:

  • Basic computer skills i.e. Excel, MS Suite and Outlook;
  • Knowledge of the methods, materials and supplies used to perform varied types of manual and unskilled tasks;
  • Ability to perform manual tasks either alone or as a member of a group;
  • Ability to follow safety precautions in the operation of assigned tools and equipment;
  • Ability to prioritize, multi-task, be self-motivated, detail-oriented and able to function efficiently within a fast paced and sometimes stressful environment;
  • Ability to deal effectively and patiently with the general public, other Township employees including management and municipal officials in a pleasant, tactful, professional and efficient manner;
  • Ability to work in a team-oriented environment with the ability to develop and maintain cooperative working relationships;
  • Ability to read, write, understand and communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENT:

  • Physical conditions adequate to perform required tasks, including ability to lift loads of greater than 50 lbs;
  • Ability to perform heavy manual labor for prolonged periods of time under varying temperatures and climatic conditions;
  • Withstand to frequently work in adverse weather conditions.

LICENSE, EXPERIENCE AND

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:

  • Applicants must possess a valid NJ Driver’s license;
  • CDL is a plus but not required;
  • High School Diploma or equivalent. Trade school/skills preferred.

Successful candidate must be eighteen (18) years of age or older and reside in New Jersey unless otherwise exempted by law. Will be required to pass a pre-employment drug screen, physical, background / reference check and motor vehicle record check, including DOT D&A Clearinghouse for CDL holders.

If the accommodation cannot be made because it would cause the Township undue hardship, such persons may not be eligible.

Wages:

$16.94 per hour (2nd consecutive year returning, receive $1 increase over new base rate, subsequent years receive standard % increase as applicable.)
