The Department of Corrections is seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual(s) for the position of Maintenance Mechanic 2 at the Monroe Correctional Complex in Monroe, WA. This position operates, maintains and repairs and supervises incarcerated individual work crews in the maintenance, repair and fabrication of locks, mechanical, plumbing, steam, wastewater operation and control systems and parts. The position operates in support of the Department of Corrections' Mission:
To Improve Public Safety.

The Maintenance Mechanic 2 reports to a Construction Maintenance Project Supervisor at the The Monroe Correctional Complex (MCC). MCC is a 1400 bed male all-custody level facility located 30 miles northeast of Seattle. Employing approximately 1200 staff, the complex consists of five major units; the Washington State Reformatory Unit (WSRU), Sky River Treatment Center (SRTC), a large mental health in patient treatment unit, Twin Rivers Unit (TRU), Intensive Management Unit (IMU), and the Minimum Security Unit (MSU).

Services provided at the Monroe Correctional Complex include; custody and security, classification, education, Incarcerated Individual work programs, health care (both patient and outpatient), mental health care, sex offender treatment, food service, maintenance, personnel, recreation, volunteer services, religious services, library services, Incarcerated Individual records, visiting and extended family visits.

Whether the work is inside a prison, in community corrections, or in an administrative office, the Washington State Department of Corrections professional staff experience a high degree of personal satisfaction knowing they are creating environments in which all incarcerated individuals can learn to make choices that contribute to a safer society.

Perform work in installation, maintenance, repair and fabrication of locks, doors, fences, mechanical equipment, machinery, plumbing and sewer systems and associated equipment at the facility.

Tasks Include:

* Assess, Prioritize and Perform journey-level work to maintain, troubleshoot, repair and modify doors, gates, locks, clear and repair drains/pipes, valves, fittings, fixtures, steam, sewer and condensate pumps, controls and related systems.

* Utilize working knowledge of several related skill fields such as Plumbing, electrical, machinist work and welding for metal fabrication, carpentry, Painting, and HVAC.

* Review facility structure, finishes and conditions to determine the need for repair or maintenance.

* Responsible for shop administration:
Maintain adequate incarcerated individual staffing . Schedule resources, incarcerated individual labor and overtime. Prepare preliminary cost estimates and projections. Create purchase requests and order and inventory sufficient materials to accomplish assigned tasks. Keep records; make reports. Create and respond to work orders as needed.

* Under direction of CMPS take lead role on facility mechanical and Plumbing Projects. Layout and schedule work and coordinate tasks between trades. Prepare material, labor and cost estimates and Projections.

* Develop and conduct a Preventive maintenance Program for assigned machinery and equipment throughout the facility.

Utilize facility technical library including schematics, O&M's and blueprints.

* This position will also performs work on outside building preparation for painting. These tasks are as followed, but not limited to pressure washer cleaning, painting inside and outside buildings surfaces, curbs, fire hydrants, light pole bases and parking lots striping.

* Use current MCC Procedures to hire and train incarcerated individual workers as needed .
