POSITION SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Head of Maintenance, the Facilities Maintenance Worker performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled maintenance, repair, custodial support, and grounds maintenance duties to ensure that Monson Public Schools' buildings, grounds, and equipment remain safe, clean, functional, and well-maintained. This position supports the district's mission by providing a safe and welcoming learning environment for students, staff, and the community.

Job Requirements
  • QUALIFICATIONS:

    High school diploma or GED required.
    Three (3) years of experience in building maintenance, construction trades, facilities maintenance, or a related field preferred.
    Valid Massachusetts driver's license with a satisfactory driving record.

    Experience with snow plowing, snow removal, and grounds maintenance preferred.
    Working knowledge of carpentry, painting, plumbing, electrical, HVAC systems, and general building maintenance.
    Ability to safely operate power tools, lawn equipment, snow removal equipment, and other maintenance equipment.
    Ability to read and follow written and verbal instructions.
    Ability to work independently and collaboratively with staff, contractors, and vendors.
    Strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
    Ability to respond to emergency situations outside of normal working hours when required.
  • JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    Perform preventative maintenance and routine repairs to school buildings, grounds, equipment, and furnishings.
    Complete work orders involving carpentry, painting, plumbing, electrical, masonry, drywall, flooring, and general building repairs preferred.
    Assist with the inspection, maintenance, and minor repair of HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and mechanical systems.
    Conduct routine inspections of facilities and grounds to identify maintenance and safety concerns.
    Perform seasonal grounds maintenance including mowing, trimming, landscaping, leaf removal, and general grounds upkeep.
    Perform snow and ice removal from sidewalks, entrances, parking lots, driveways, and other district property.
    Apply sand, salt, or other ice control materials as necessary.
    Assist with setting up and breaking down classrooms, cafeterias, auditoriums, athletic facilities, and meeting spaces for school and community events.
    Assemble, install, move, and repair furniture, fixtures, and equipment.
    Maintain tools, vehicles, and maintenance equipment in safe operating condition.
    Monitor building systems and promptly report equipment failures or safety hazards.
    Assist outside contractors performing maintenance or repair work on district facilities.
    Maintain an adequate inventory of maintenance supplies and notify supervisor when materials need replenishment.
    Follow all OSHA regulations, district safety procedures, and applicable federal, state, and local laws.
    Participate in emergency response activities as assigned, including weather-related emergencies.
