Work Year: 180 school days plus 5 days immediately preceding the school year.

POSITION SUMMARY: Reporting to the Head of Maintenance, the Night Custodian is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, healthy, and orderly learning environment at Granite Valley School. This position performs routine custodial duties including cleaning classrooms, offices, hallways, restrooms, cafeterias, and common areas to ensure the building is prepared for students and staff each school day.

• QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or GED preferred.
  • Previous custodial experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of proper cleaning methods, materials, equipment, and safety procedures.
  • Ability to safely operate custodial equipment including vacuums, floor scrubbers, and other cleaning equipment.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with staff and the public.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and move custodial equipment and supplies.
  • Valid Massachusetts driver's license preferred.

  JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Empty trash and recycling receptacles throughout the building and replace liners as needed.
  • Vacuum carpets in classrooms, offices, and common areas.
  • Sweep and clean all hard surface floors.
  • Clean and disinfect student and staff restrooms daily.
  • Clean and sanitize sinks, toilets, urinals, mirrors, partitions, and other restroom fixtures.
  • Dust windowsills, ledges, and other surfaces.
  • Clean classrooms, offices, cafeterias, hallways, stairwells, entrances, and other assigned areas.
  • Spot clean walls, doors, windows, lockers, and other surfaces as needed.
  • Refill soap dispensers, paper towel dispensers, and toilet tissue dispensers.
  • Secure assigned areas by locking doors and reporting any security concerns at the end of each shift.
  • Report maintenance issues, safety hazards, vandalism, or damaged equipment to the Head of Maintenance.
  • Follow all district safety procedures, OSHA regulations, and proper handling of cleaning chemicals.
  • Maintain custodial equipment and cleaning supplies in a clean, safe, and organized manner.
  • Respond to emergency cleaning situations, including spills and other custodial needs.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
