Custodian

Work Unit Overview:

The custodial staff are supervised by the Custodian Supervisor and provides a wide variety of cleaning services for the multiple offices and buildings located in Virginia City. Applicant will be required to submit to a driving record check as a condition of employment and beable to clear background checks and finger printing.

The custodial staff provides cleaning, sanitary, comfortable, satisfying surroundings for Madison County employees and to the public. The normal workdays are evenings and may require occasional weekend hours. Additional hours may be assigned as requested by the Custodial Supervisor to meet the needs of the department.

• Cleaning for the Administration Bldg. and the Courthouse and other county offices.
• Clean and disinfect toilets and sinks in restrooms daily.
• Fill towel, toilet paper and soap dispensers daily or as needed.
• Sweep and mop restrooms floors daily.
• Wipe down stalls, doors, mirrors, etc. as needed.
• Clean Sheriff's Office, 911 Dispatch Center, Dept. of Public Health and Library and DES daily.
• Empty trashcans daily and deliver to disposal site.
• Gather recyclable materials and deliver to designated containers at the disposal site weekly.
• Vacuum main hallway and office carpets daily.
• Vacuum and dust vaults (except Treasury) as needed. Coordinate with department heads.
• Dust and polish uncovered furniture, fixtures, and windowsills as scheduled.
• Clean walls, woodwork and drapes as needed.
• Wash windows as needed. Coordinate with Custodial Supervisor.
• Shampoo or spot clean carpets as needed. Coordinate with Custodial Supervisor.
• Communicate with Custodial Supervisor on a regular basis.
• Check paper tray for work related materials.
• Close windows
