OverviewThe Maintenance Worker 2 is part of the Parks and Outdoor Recreation Division and reports to the Maintenance Team Supervisor. This role performs a wide variety of semi-skilled or manual work repairing, maintaining, and improving habitat areas, vegetation, grounds, and facilities at state parks, fishing access sites, wildlife management areas, and administrative facilities.
Responsibilities- Operate equipment such as mowers, powered weed trimmers, pick-ups, ATVs, chainsaws, and hand tools.
- Perform basic repairs to building structures, including historic preservation activities.
- Scrape, paint, stain or treat building and structural surfaces and exterior features.
- Install, repair and maintain fencing, signs, posts, kiosks, and other fixtures.
- Engage in landscaping activities: mowing, tree pruning, hazardous tree removal, irrigation, planting lawns, shrubs, and trees.
- Make general repairs to equipment, notify others when extensive repairs are required.
- Carry out specialized tasks such as plumbing, welding, carpentry, roofing, electrical, and historic building stabilization as needed.
- Perform plumbing and sewer system repairs and maintenance, including pumps, wells, valves, sinks, septic tanks, and various pipe types.
- Fabricate specialized equipment when required.
- Plan and determine weed control efforts using chemical, biological, and mechanical methods, and produce reports for FWP sites.
- Control weeds as a licensed applicator or obtain a license, coordinate with Maintenance Supervisor, and monitor work of county spray crews.
- Gather and remove garbage, debris, litter; perform janitorial and cleaning tasks.
- Perform basic preventative maintenance on equipment such as checking fluids, belts, hoses, and filters.
- Assist with daily maintenance logs; record keeping; ordering supplies; completing vehicle reports; time reporting.
- Construct and repair property boundary fences, maintain roads, culverts, and bridges using heavy and light equipment.
- Develop and maintain habitat projects (tree planting, grazing, waterfowl nesting, irrigation systems).
- Monitor FWP sites; document incidents; make public contacts; report violations.
- Collect fees and educate visitors on rules, report violations.
- Evaluate staff on equipment operation and maintenance; lead safety trainings; ensure proper use of personal protective equipment.
- Assist with major maintenance construction and stabilization projects.
- Lead as Maintenance Team Supervisor in the supervisor’s absence; demonstrate independent decision-making; act as Lead Crew worker when required.
