Position Overview: The person in this position is responsible to keep the District’s school buildings and grounds in such a state of operating excellence that they present no problems or interruptions to the educational program.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Sweeps, mops, scrubs, and waxes floors
- Vacuums rugs and carpets
- Dusts, washes, and polishes furniture and woodwork
- Cleans restrooms, replenishes supplies, and fills dispensers
- Washes windows, walls, sinks, and fountains
- Observes and reports need for repairs and makes minor repairs as time permits
- Secures building at end of shift
- May work in heights over 12′
- Picks up trash and litter and empties and cleans trash and garbage receptacles
- Does emergency cleanup, resulting from vandalism, breakage, spillage, or illness
- Is responsible for reporting unruly student activities, loitering, vandalism, or similar situations
- Performs routine nontechnical maintenance duties with the use of household hand tools
- Receives, stores, and distributes supplies
- Keeps tools and equipment clean and operational
- Maintains work related records and prepares various reports as directed

Desired Minimum Qualifications
Education / Certification
- High School diploma or equivalent
Special Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
- Knowledge of methods, materials, and equipment used in cleaning various types of surfaces and furniture
- Ability to use chemicals & cleaning compounds in a safe manner
- Knowledge of basic safety practices related to custodial work
- Ability to perform heavy physical labor
- Ability to work effectively without close supervision
- Ability to operate specialized cleaning and maintenance tools and equipment
- Ability to understand and follow a work schedule
- Ability to keep basic work records and make reports
- Ability to understand and carry out oral and written directions and instructions
- Ability to maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
- Ability to handle stressful situations
- Ability to effectively manage time and responsibilities
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of employee and student matters
- Ability to perform duties with awareness of District requirements and School Board policies
Equipment Used
- Cleaning and maintenance tools and equipment, including but not limited to vacuum, floor polishers, floor strippers, miscellaneous scrubbing equipment
Supervisory Responsibilities: none
Work Environment: Employee frequently required to walk, stand, bend, stoop, kneel, crawl, stretch, push heavy equipment, lift and carry equipment and objects. May be required to lift and or carry up to 50 pounds. Must have dexterity of hands and fingers to grasp objects. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Employee must be able to speak and to hear and to exchange information. Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud. Guidance, reinforcement, and social interactions with oral and written communications are typical.
