* JOB SUMMARY:
** Jefferson County is seeking a well-qualified, motivated Sewer Maintenance Superintendent to be responsible for overseeing the administrative and operational activities associated with the construction, repair, and maintenance of Jefferson County pump stations. Individuals in this job class serve as the liaison between the department and various entities (e.g., other departments and agencies, community citizens) by communicating relevant sewer-related information and maintaining positive relationships.
They consult with design engineers and others regarding system improvements and repairs and participate in long-range project planning (e.g., sewer improvement projects) in order to prepare estimates of materials, time, and equipment. Sewer Maintenance Superintendents ensure regular and routine maintenance of equipment and sanitary sewer facilities through inspections and communication with the maintenance department. Employees in this job classification are also expected to procure the necessary equipment and inventory (i.e., supplies) to ensure the products and services are available to meet the operational needs of each department.

* MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
** The following are job-related qualifications required for employment consideration for this position.
* Driver's license.
* Grade 1C Wastewater Collection System Certification from Alabama Department of Environmental Management (ADEM).
* Experience supervising field personnel in construction and/or maintenance of sanitary sewer collection systems.
* Experience preparing field reports of daily activities for documentation purposes.
* Experience developing and monitoring a departmental or division-level budget (e.g., calculating overtime pay, purchasing/replacing equipment, identifying personnel needs).
* Experience reading/interpreting sanitary sewer plans and specifications, inspecting sewer lines to identify defects and determine appropriate maintenance methods, and resolving complaints from various individuals (e.g., property owner, contractors) regarding sanitary sewer issues.
* Experience working with GIS mapping software (e.g., Esri, Arc GIS).

* PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
** The following are job-related qualifications deemed desirable by Jefferson County. These qualifications may be considered by a hiring agency when reviewing applications and inviting candidates to participate in subsequent steps in the selection process.
* Experience with monitoring pump stations through telemetry (e.g., Mission, Citect, SCADA)
* Experience troubleshooting and determining repairs for both mechanical and electrical systems (e.g., wastewater pumps, industrial control panels, valves, industrial piping)
* Experience with leading safety meetings, safety programs, and safety audits

*** Prepares, monitors, and administers departmental or organizational budget by reviewing spending trends, expenditure reports, analyzing financial data and ensuring expenditures are within annual budgetary limits.
* Coordinates and directs preventative and corrective maintenance of sanitary sewer systems and equipment located throughout Jefferson County to ensure proper and safe operations.
* Compiles and reviews information from a variety of sources in order to produce/review documentation required for compliance with federal, state and county guidelines for sanitary sewer systems.
* Procures and/or manages inventory (i.e., supplies and equipment) to ensure the products and services are available to meet the operational needs of each department.
* Participates in the planning and coordination of construction and maintenance projects performed by external contractors of sanitary sewer lines, pump stations and treatment plants.
* Serves as liaison between departments and various entities (e.g., other departments and agencies, community citizens) by communicating relevant sewer-related information and maintaining positive relationships.
* Supervises staff by assigning and distributing work, directing staff in their job duties, monitoring progress of work, providing feedback and/or training.
** PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
** Job occasionally involves moderate physical exertion required for occasional prolonged periods of lifting, carrying, balancing, climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling. Job May involve occasional lifting of items or objects weighing up to 50 lbs.
