About the Role
Join CGB, a leading grain and transportation company founded in 1969, in a seasonal general laborer position at a facility that loads and unloads barges and trucks. This role offers overtime opportunities and hands‑on experience in a grain environment.
Responsibilities- Participate in the company Safety Program and attend daily pre‑shift meetings.
- Perform all duties in compliance with OSHA, company safety, and environmental regulations, wearing appropriate PPE.
- Read drafts, open/close lids, tie off barges, and oversee deckhand(s).
- Load barges to meet draft and quality requirements and manage barge loading duties.
- Transfer, load, and move grain to appropriate locations while maintaining grain quality.
- Complete documentation accurately, timely, and legibly.
- Perform general clean‑up duties including sweeping, shoveling, washing, painting, and housekeeping.
- Assist with preventative maintenance and repairs as needed.
- Unload barges, clean barges, move product to storage, load trucks with heavy equipment, load rail, and operate dryers (when applicable).
- Operate heavy equipment and run/shut down dryer as required.
- Perform any additional duties assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalent, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- No prior experience required (preferred: 1 year in an industrial environment).
- Basic mathematical skills (add, subtract, multiply, divide).
- Effective interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
- Ability to complete documentation requirements and follow directions.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to use appropriate tools for assigned tasks.
- Strong focus on customer service (internal and external).
- Balance, bend, stoop, twist, crouch, crawl, kneel, and squat continuously and frequently.
- Climb stairs and ladders to significant heights frequently.
- Concentrate on tasks without distraction.
- Distinguish grain quality by color, odor, and damage characteristics.
- Enter observations into a computer and use a two‑way radio for communication.
- Lift, push, or pull up to 50 lbs. occasionally and continuously as needed.
- Use PPE and meet requirements of PFT and fit testing.
- Pass FRA and DOT testing for this position (when applicable).
- Work in confined spaces and around water.
- Stand and walk constantly and continuously; work in a high dust environment.
- Work outside in extreme weather conditions.
- Work rotating 12‑hour shifts, including evenings, nights, weekends, holidays, and extended hours.
- Travel 5–20% may be required for some facilities.
Expected base pay range: $16.00 – $26.00 per hour. Actual pay may vary based on location and experience.
