Maintenance & Construction Worker
The Maintenance & Construction Worker will support department operations through a variety of field maintenance and construction activities, including but not limited to servicing appliances to remove hazardous materials; performing grounds maintenance at headquarters and throughout landfill sites; graffiti removal; facility maintenance; litter control; landfill site maintenance; traffic control; and cleaning illegally dumped trash along County roads. Qualified candidates will have worked in a solid waste facility or recycling center, specifically with the day-to-day operations including traffic direction, materials recycling, and appliance servicing.
Competitive candidates will possess a strong maintenance and construction background. Previous experience working for a municipality or public agency is highly desired. The Maintenance and Construction Worker is a first working level classification and reports to an appropriate supervisory or manager level position. Incumbents are required to perform a variety of semi-skilled tasks, which often includes the operation of the less complex and smaller motorized equipment (e.g., two-axle or three-axle trucks, water spray trucks, loaders, mowers, chippers, and compressors).
Functions in which this work is performed include road and flood control construction and maintenance, refuse disposal site operations, maintenance, recycling, excavations, fence building, weed abatement, signing, rodent control, and tree trimming.

Some positions may require rotating weekend work. Schedule to be determined by department.
