Position Details- Position Title: Street Maintenance Worker
- Classification: Non-Exempt
- Salary Grade: Apprentice 8, Journey 9, Senior 10
- Reports To: Street Supervisor

The Street Maintenance Worker is responsible for the construction, maintenance, and repair of city infrastructure, including streets, alleys, sidewalks, structures, streetlights, traffic signals, fiber optic networks, and related facilities. The role involves routine maintenance, emergency response, equipment operation, safety protocol adherence, and effective communication with team members and the public.
Distinguishing CharacteristicsApprentice: Entry-level; performs duties under direct supervision.
Journey: Specializes in operation, maintenance, and repair of city street systems. Capable of completing the full range of tasks with occasional instruction and full awareness of operating procedures.
Senior: Technically advanced; may lead in specific area or interdepartmental specialties, serve as responsible party on job sites, and lead operations, maintenance, repair and troubleshooting activities.
Essential Functions- Act as the Responsible Person while on call for the Moscow Public Works and Services Group.
- Investigate customer complaints of street problems and resolve them in a timely manner.
- Perform repair and maintenance activities to ensure safe, effective operations per regulations.
- Monitor stock levels of repair and maintenance parts and supplies, reorder as required.
- Perform yard maintenance, maintain assigned equipment, and maintain material stockpiles.
- Respond to Public Works emergencies after hours as needed.
- Install and remove large and small banners.
- Ensure MUTCD compliance of all roadway signage and temporary traffic control work zones.
- Perform duties in construction, maintenance, and repair of city infrastructure.
- Under direct supervision, install traffic control for work zones and special events.
- Assist in operation of equipment used in street, fiber, and stormwater maintenance.
- Operate snow removal equipment including plows, sand and salt, magnesium chloride application equipment, dump trucks, graders with snow gates, front-end loader, and snow blower.
- Install and maintain paint and thermal plastic pavement markings per MUTCD standards.
- Assist in sweeping all city streets, parking lots, and alleys.
- Assist in maintaining and repairing city and state-owned traffic signals.
- Assist in pruning trees and shrubs in sight triangles and rights of way per city code.
- Assist in using surveying equipment to check grades and elevations.
- Assist in guardrail maintenance.
