Job Description
Position is responsible for maintaining center buildings and grounds in top condition by developing work plans, ensuring availability of necessary tools and materials, and minimizing disruption to daily operations. Perform assembly and minor repair of equipment and furniture, painting, plumbing, lighting, and yard and window maintenance. Develop routine preventative maintenance schedules and maintain inventory.

The organization employs over 1,000 staff on a $52 million annual budget and works under various federal and state funded programs, including Regional Head Start (RHS), Migrant Seasonal Head Start (MSHS), Early Childhood Education and Assistance Program (ECEAP), and Early Head Start (EHS).
Services are primarily delivered in Spanish, reflecting the diverse community served.
The Custodian/Maintenance reports to the Center Manager, works closely with center staff, parents, and children, and coordinates with other site personnel.
Essential Duties and Accountabilities- Sweep, vacuum, mop, dust, clean and disinfect classrooms, restrooms, kitchen and common areas.
- Dispose of garbage and disinfect wastebaskets or garbage cans daily.
- Maintain equipment and facility cleanliness; ensure tools and machinery are safe and operational.
- Perform floor and carpet care as needed.
- Secure sidewalks, parking lots, playgrounds and windows; report unsafe equipment to the Center Manager.
- Conduct routine maintenance and repairs on exterior buildings and outdoor areas.
- Construct, erect and install structures and fixtures of wood, plywood and wallboard using hand and power tools.
- Adhere to Hazardous Materials training and safety protocols; store chemicals securely.
- Prepare and maintain inventories of janitorial supplies; notify the Center Manager when reordering is needed.
- Assist the Head cook or cook with organizing, storing groceries and inventory.
- Participate in staff meetings, workshops, trainings and seminars for professional growth.
- Review and understand all center policies and procedures regarding child safety.
- Maintain confidentiality of program and client information.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- General Educational Development (GED) certificate or completion within the first year of employment.
- Extensive knowledge of building maintenance and custodial practices.
- Experience in planning and preparing workloads.
- Experience with policy and procedural compliance.
- Experience in building and maintenance risk management.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

- Minimum of 3 years’ experience in custodial and maintenance.
- High standards of work ethics – cleanliness and sanitation.
- At least 18 years of age.
- Valid Washington State driver's license and yearly driving abstract.
- Acceptable driving history and proof of automobile insurance.
- Ability to travel for job duties.
