Description
Incorporated in 1955 and encompassing more than 454 acres, the Mt. Prospect Park District provides outstanding recreational programs, events, parks, facilities and services. With seven primary facilities and 27 neighborhood parks, the Park District is an integral part of a thriving multi‑generational community. District open space includes two outdoor pools, biking and walking paths, a dog park and sizable space for outdoor athletic programming.
The District covers over 11 square miles and serves a region of over a quarter million residents in Mount Prospect and surrounding communities.
We are searching for a part‑time Kinder Klub Director (Illinois Municipal Retirement Fund pension eligible) for the Park District’s Kindergarten enrichment program for Mount Prospect School District 57 students, for the 2026‑2027 school year. The PT‑IMRF Kinder Klub Director is responsible for teaching Kindergarten age children and for planning, organizing, supervising and implementing day‑to‑day activities.
The PT‑IMRF Kinder Klub Director can expect to work during the school year from August through June, from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm, not to exceed 1,500 hours annually. Working the required hours is an essential function of this position.
Eligibility & Requirements- Must be at least 21 years old and possess a valid driver’s license to operate MPPD vehicles.
- Must be able to pass a criminal background check.
- Must possess an Associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education, a Bachelor’s degree, and/or experience in a teaching role with college hours.
- Must have a thorough knowledge of developmentally appropriate practices in early childhood education and classroom management techniques.
- Must be available to work during the school year, from August through June, from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm.
- Must be able to work in a team atmosphere, promoting positive work relationships with supervisors, co‑workers and patrons.
- Must be able to demonstrate leadership qualities to perform required work.
- Must be able to speak loudly and clearly in a large group setting.
- Regular and reliable attendance is an essential job function of this position.
- Responsible for planning, supervision and safety of the program and activities for the children that meet the emotional, physical, intellectual and social needs of both the individual and the group.
- Execute appropriate practices in early childhood education, classroom management techniques and appropriate guidance and discipline techniques.
- Prepare the classroom and clean‑ups before and after the day’s activities.
- Operate Park District vehicles to transport students to and/or from school.
- Maintain a clean and organized classroom to provide a warm, safe environment for the children.
- Provide a variety of activities and materials that are age appropriate and relevant to young children.
- Use appropriate and positive behavior management when necessary.
- Develop lesson plans.
- Oversee the Kinder Klub Assistants and work cohesively with others.
- Maintain open communication with parents regarding participant daily events.
- Display a pleasant personality and work record demonstrating positive attitude, reliability, initiative, tact and productivity.
- Attend regular meetings and any other departmental special events as requested.
- Administer basic first aid, when required.
- Perform additional duties as assigned which may be considered essential.
- Maintain a neat and orderly work environment, return supplies and equipment to the appropriate location when finished.
- All other duties as assigned by the Early Childhood and Youth Manager, Director of Recreation and/or Executive Director. However, in an emergency, perform all other duties as required.
The Kinder Klub Director will be required to regularly squat down to child’s level, stand and walk for a lengthy amount of time, sit in child‑size chairs, lift 20+ pounds and demonstrate large/small motor movements.
