Purpose:

The Reading Interventionist is a licensed educator with advanced expertise in literacy who provides targeted support to students who are reading below grade-level. They diagnose reading difficulties, provide targeted, evidence-based interventions to struggling readers, and support classroom teachers in effective literacy instruction. They work in small groups or one-on-one, analyze literacy data, and help facilitate reading instruction and intervention throughout the building while working within a Multi-Tiered System of Supports.

The Reading Interventionist engages in, consultation and technical assistance, job-embedded professional development, assessments and evaluations, modeling and feedback of strategies and supports and collaborative problem solving.

Essential Functions:

• Provide specialized, often one-on-one or small-group instruction to improve phonemic awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension, particular for students with dyslexia or other learning challenges.

• Collaborate to create a tailored literacy plans that match a student's specific ability level and learning style, while also reinforcing the core classroom curriculum.

• Meets regularly with classroom teachers to share progress data and co-plan support.

• Administering, scoring, and interpreting reading assessments to identify specific skill gaps.

• Track student growth over time and adjust intervention plans as necessary.

• Assisting school leadership in selecting, implementing, and evaluating evidence-based reading programs.

• Promoting a love for reading and in some classes coordinating family literacy events, along with meeting with parents and guardians to discuss progress and recommend strategies for supporting literacy at home.

• Collaborate and problem-solve with NSSEO coaches.

• Other duties as assigned.

Other Functions:

• Assume appropriate roles as adult model, behavior manager and educator.

• Assume responsibility for continued professional growth.

• Assume other duties and special projects as assigned.

• Support NSSEO policy, NSSEO and governing board goals and objectives and The School Code of Illinois.

Working Environment:

• Exposure to hazardous conditions (e.g. mechanical, cuts, burns, infectious disease, high decibel noise, etc.) is seldom or not present.

• Frequency of exposure to injury to self and/or others is seldom or not present.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Valid Professional Educator's License endorsed for Learning Behavior Specialist and Reading Interventionist

• Master's Degree or Reading or Literacy Preferred.

• Multiple years of experience in the field of education.

• Experience in implementing and supporting school improvement processes, including Multi-Tiered System of Support (MTSS) AND Positive Behavior Intervention and Supports (PBIS).

• Experience designing, delivering and coordinating professional development learning activities regarding reading intervention, curriculum and instruction.
