Incorporated in 1955 and encompassing more than 454 acres, the Mt. Prospect Park District provides outstanding recreational programs, events, parks, facilities and services. With seven primary facilities and 27 neighborhood parks, the Park District is an integral part of a thriving multi-generational community. District open space includes two outdoor pools, biking and walking paths, a dog park and sizable space for outdoor athletic programming.
The District covers over 11 square miles and serves a region of over a quarter residents in Mount Prospect and surrounding communities.
We are searching for a Part‑Time Custodian who will be driving on the job. Reporting to the Parks and Planning Division Manager, the Part‑Time Custodian will perform custodial maintenance of District buildings and facilities. The PT Custodian must be at least 18 years old, hold and maintain a valid driver's license and be able to successfully pass a criminal background check.
The PT Custodian can expect to work 16‑20 hours a week, with shifts that include evening and weekend hours. The starting pay for the Part‑Time Custodian (driving) is $16.00 per hour. Park District employees also receive facilities privileges.
- Perform custodial maintenance in buildings, including painting, cleaning, striping, waxing floors, cleaning restrooms, replenishing supplies, emptying trash, and light bulb replacement.
- Operate manual and mechanized cleaning equipment and sanitize assigned areas.
- Set up and take down rooms for parks programs and rentals, moving furniture, chairs, etc.
- Report building and site maintenance problems to the Facility Manager or Buildings Department Manager.
- Keep grounds free of litter and debris.
- Perform exterior maintenance as needed year‑round.
- Perform other duties as needed to maintain the facility at standards established by the Facility Manager.
- Abide by Park District policies and procedures.
- Participate in the Park District’s safety training programs.
- Provide evening and weekend coverage.
- Drive between facilities for work purposes.
- At least 18 years of age.
- High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent, or equivalent experience and training.
- Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
- Knowledge of cleaning materials, equipment, and procedures.
- Physical ability to perform all custodial duties.
- Effective communication skills for coordination, safety, and emergencies.
- Ability to follow written and/or verbal instructions.
- Patience, understanding, and excellent customer service with patrons, staff, and the public.
- Team player and ability to work independently and with limited supervision.
- Compliance with Park District policies and procedures.
- Flexible schedule including days, evenings, weekends, holidays, and special events.
Must be physically able to frequently ascend/descend more than a 25% grade, lift 50 lbs. from a squat position, push/pull, reach, walk; occasionally balance, bend at waist and touch floor with fingertips, climb, crawl, crouch, kneel for long periods, sit, stoop; and constantly handle objects. May be exposed to cleaning materials and weather conditions including rain, sun, wind, high humidity, excessive heat, and cold;
must be able to work in inclement weather.
Work schedule may vary and may exceed 40 hours per week at times, but will be less than 1,000 hours per year. Evening and weekend hours are required. The district encourages employees to apply before positions are filled; first 25 applicants may have priority.
