Overview
The Village is seeking a dynamic leader for our next Director of Building & Inspection Services, who will perform highly responsible strategic and administrative work and direct and manage the operations of the Building & Inspection Services division. The Director of Building & Inspection Services leads a team of 15.5 employees, is a key member of the Village’s Leadership Team, and reports directly to the Village Manager.
The Community Development Department is responsible for administering the Village’s building, zoning and development codes to ensure safe and effective development, redevelopment, and property maintenance within Mount Prospect. The Department reviews plans, issues permits, and performs the necessary inspections to ensure adherence to proper construction and design codes. The Department is further responsible for health, housing, and property maintenance inspections to protect the health and well-being of Mount Prospect’s residents and administers the Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds allocated on an annual basis from the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

- Review plans, issue permits, and perform inspections to enforce construction and design codes
- Manage health, housing, and property maintenance inspections
- Administer Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) funds from HUD
Minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in building inspection, code enforcement, or related field, and thorough knowledge of building codes, zoning regulations, and inspection practices. Experience using technology for construction operations and process improvement, along with exceptional customer service, strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills. A Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Architecture, Public Administration, or a related field is required;
Certified Building Official or Master Code Professional certification is a plus. Equivalent combinations of education, experience, and training will be considered.
The full salary range is $132,989 – $186,184 annually; starting salary is dependent on qualifications and experience.
