Position SummaryResponsible for the maintenance and operation of the college Physical Plant and all related equipment. The Operating Engineer serves as a maintenance mechanic when supplemental staffing is needed. The position can be full time or part time.
Job Duties and Responsibilities- Operate and maintain Physical Plant equipment and systems (boilers, condensing boilers, chillers, heat recovery chiller, cooling tower, BAS, pumps, compressors, etc.). Complete a physical tour of the campus to monitor all building equipment and ensure optimal operation.
- Assist in maintaining a clean, concise written log recording all events during assigned shifts and monitor equipment and systems via the building automation system.
- Ensure that the boiler room and all equipment are maintained in a clean and orderly manner at all times.
- Consult with maintenance mechanics on changes made to building heating and/or air conditioning systems, ensuring changes are noted in the log.
- Respond to requests for emergency and routine facilities services, including maintenance and custodial services during off‑hours, resolve complaints when possible, and communicate problems to the supervisor.
- Perform all duties in accordance with applicable safety codes and procedures, including the use of personal protective equipment as necessary.
- Function as liaison between Facilities Maintenance & Operations and appropriate vendors to ensure maintenance of HVAC and fire alarm systems.
- Report during college‑closed periods (due to inclement weather) to assist with snow removal or storm damage repair.
- High School diploma or equivalent and a Maryland First Grade Stationary Engineer’s license.
- Minimum of two years of experience in electrical, plumbing, heating, cooling, and general maintenance and repair.
- Working knowledge of electrical, plumbing, heating, cooling, and general maintenance and repair.
- Proficient oral, written and electronic communication skills.
- Working knowledge of computerized building automation systems.
- Ability to interact professionally and effectively with students, faculty, staff, and the public.
- Ability to work safely and reliably with minimal supervision. Flexibility regarding work location, duties, hours, and shifts.
- Formal training in building automation systems.
- Working knowledge of various trades.

Pay dates occur on the 7th and 22nd of each month. If those dates fall on a weekend, the pay date occurs on the Friday prior to the 7th and 22nd. As an employee of the college, you are eligible for a comprehensive benefits package.
