Looking for an opportunity to get your foot in the door as a state employee while providing vital custodial services for our resident Veterans? Our team is excited to announce we are now accepting applications for a Full‑Time Permanent Custodian 1 position.
Compensation: This position has been posted within the assigned pay range through Step L. Step M is not published as it is the longevity step in alignment with state HR compensation rules.
Work Schedule: Thursday through Monday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm.
Telework: This position is not eligible for telework.
Homes 24/7 Facility Differential: Updated as of July 1, 2025, the position is eligible for a “Supplement Basic Shift Premium” of $1.00 per hour for 24/7 facilities. This premium does not apply to overtime hours and expires on June 29, 2027.
About the RoleAs a Custodian 1, you will perform a variety of custodial tasks and routine cleaning of our facility buildings to enhance appearance and provide comfort to residents.
Responsibilities- Provide custodial cleaning service in assigned areas, resident rooms, common areas, and office spaces.
- Vacuum, extract carpets, mop, disinfect, strip, and wax as required.
- Maintain baseboards free of dirt and wax buildup.
- Empty trash and keep receptacles odor‑free.
- Perform various housekeeping tasks such as restocking the custodial cart.
- Assist nursing and food service staff in cleaning dining rooms after each meal.
- Maintain elevators in a clean and streak‑free condition.
- Keep toilets, urinals, sinks, and other fixtures clean and free of scale, film, and odors.
- Perform additional tasks as required.
- Excellent listening skills and ability to work productively with staff and residents from diverse backgrounds.
- Maintain quality, safety, and infection control standards.
- Physical ability to perform required work including lifting up to 60 lbs and reaching 36”.
- Knowledge of cleaning methods, materials, equipment, and safety practices for toxic materials.
- Understanding of aseptic procedures and infection control as related to custodial services.
- Ability to adopt work procedures to meet changing needs, inspect and evaluate cleanliness, follow safety policies, operate floor‑care machines, and use written instructions.
- Proficiency in English.
- Must pass a DSHS BCCU Background Check every two (2) years.
- Must comply with annual Tuberculin Screening.
- Must meet medical evaluation and respiratory protection requirements.
- Must maintain reliable attendance and complete mandatory training.
- Must sign the confidentiality statement and, if required, possess a valid unrestricted driver’s license.
- Must have work authorization that does not require sponsorship.
- Experience in housekeeping, janitorial, building maintenance, or custodial work in a health care facility, hospital, or nursing home.
