ELECTRICAL INSPECTOR/CODE ENFORCEMENT
The City of Mt. Washington is seeking to fill a full-time electrical inspector/code enforcement position. The hours would be Monday through Friday 7:00 am – 3:00 pm and on call as needed for emergencies. This position's starting salary is $57,594.63 or dependent upon experience.
DUTIESThe Electrical Inspector supports safe building practices and assists in ensuring compliance with electrical codes and standards by conducting field inspections of residential and commercial installations. The ideal candidate will assist code enforcement and stormwater management departments with investigations of complaints and safety concerns, identify code violations, respond to inspection requests, maintain accurate records, and provide guidance to contractors, developers, and homeowners regarding local and state regulations and codes.

Candidates must possess a high school diploma or equivalent and a minimum of five (5) years of experience in the electrical trade through employment, apprenticeship, or formal training. Applicants must hold current Kentucky Residential and Commercial Electrical Inspector licenses and a valid Kentucky driver’s license with a demonstrated safe driving record. A working knowledge of the National Electrical Code (NEC), Kentucky Building Code (KBC), and local regulations is required, along with the ability to interpret electrical plans and proficiency with testing tools such as multimeters and circuit testers.
Candidates should demonstrate basic computer proficiency in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, and Excel) and inspection software, as well as strong communication skills for interacting with contractors, developers, and the public. This role requires punctuality in making inspection appointments, the ability to self-manage a workload, and a commitment to working under the guidance of the Senior Inspector while showing initiative. Additionally, the candidate must have the desire to complete the Kentucky Building Inspector program and must obtain the KY EPSC Inspector qualification within 12 months of hire.
DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT
Candidates must be able to spend significant time performing field inspections, which involve walking, climbing, kneeling, and navigating active construction sites. This role requires the ability to enter areas of limited size, such as attics and crawl spaces, and entails frequent exposure to varying weather conditions and construction environments. Professional office duties include the use of computers and other electronic devices to complete reports and manage documentation.
Additionally, the ability to utilize personal protective equipment (PPE) as required for specific site inspections is essential.
