The Illinois Department of Natural Resources is seeking a Site Technician II to work at Lake Murphysboro State Park in the Office of Land Management. The role will perform routine grounds maintenance and janitorial duties, operate heavy machinery, repair asphalt roads, and maintain park infrastructure. The park is located about one mile west of Murphysboro off Route 149.
Essential Functions- Under general direction of the Site Superintendent, performs semi‑skilled support tasks to carry out the wildlife management program for Lake Murphysboro and Kinkaid Lake.
- Participates in maintenance and minor repairs of buildings, shelters, and grounds.
- Completes maintenance and repairs of inner road systems, access areas and drainage systems utilizing heavy equipment.
- Assists in assuring the safety and security of the site and visiting public.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
- High school graduation and two (2) years maintenance or farming experience, preferably associated with building trades and/or operation of heavy equipment and machinery.
- Qualifying state employees in the Upward Mobility Program may complete combinations of specific proficiency tests and training programs leading to a certificate of proficiency in lieu of the state requirement for this classification.
- Working knowledge of tools and equipment used in the trades and/or operation of heavy equipment or farm machinery and implements and/or warehousing.
- Two (2) years of experience following written and oral instructions.
- One (1) year of experience informing visitors of site facilities, programs, rules, and regulations.
- Completion of a background check and self‑disclosure of criminal history.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Ability to obtain pesticide operator’s license within 6 months of employment.
- Ability to withstand exposure to the elements on a year‑round basis.
- Physical ability to operate and maintain tools, equipment, and materials utilized in the maintenance, repair, and care of site resources, buildings, and grounds.
- Ability to lift, carry, and transport loads exceeding sixty pounds.
- Ability to walk over rough and broken terrain.
- Ability to work overtime as required.
- Ability to obtain and maintain First Aid/CPR certification.
April‑November:
