Position OverviewThe Illinois Department of Natural Resources is seeking to hire a Site Technician II at Lake Murphysboro State Park for the Office of Land Management. This position will perform routine grounds maintenance and janitorial duties; operate machinery over 80 hp and make needed repairs/maintenance to this machinery; mow area with hand and riding mowers, tractors, and bushhogs; repair asphalt roads; and replace bollards, gates, and barricades.
Beautiful rolling hills and woods surround star-shaped Lake Murphysboro and provide a wonderful backdrop for boating, fishing, picnicking, camping and hiking. Located in Jackson County about 1 mile west of Murphysboro off Route 149, the 1,022-acre state park is the perfect place to enjoy the great outdoors. - Under general direction of the Site Superintendent, performs semi-skilled support tasks to carry out the wildlife management program for Lake Murphysboro and Kinkaid Lake.
- Participates in the maintenance and minor repairs of buildings, shelters, and grounds.
- Completes the maintenance and repairs of the inner road systems, access areas & drainage systems utilizing heavy equipment.
- Assists in assuring the safety and security of the site and visiting public.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
- Requires education and experience equivalent to high school graduation and two (2) years maintenance or farming experience preferably associated with the building trades and/or the operation of heavy equipment and machinery.
- Qualifying state employees in the employee Upward Mobility Program may complete combinations of specific proficiency tests and training programs leading to a certificate of proficiency in lieu of the state requirement for this classification.
- Working knowledge of tools and equipment used in the trades and/or the operation of heavy equipment or farm machinery and implements and/or warehousing.
- Two (2) years of experience following written and oral instructions.
- One (1) year of experience informing visitors of site facilities, programs, rules, and regulations.
Work Hours:
April-November:
Thurs-Mon, 3pm-11pm w/ 1/2 hr lunch;
Dec-March:
Thurs-Mon, 7am-3pm w/ 1/2 hr lunch.
