General Description

Maintain a safe, secure, clean and orderly learning environment in campus buildings and on campus grounds while assisting all teams within the department. The position operates independently, applying appropriate safety practices and decision‑making across multiple areas. The role is part of a team responsible for custodial, grounds, maintenance, and skilled‑trade work.

Typical Hours

1st Shift: Monday – Friday 6:00 AM – 2:00 PM or as directed by supervisor.

Pay

$18.52 – $20.03 per hour, depending on experience.

Qualifications

Minimum of high school diploma or GED.

Ability to work independently and follow written instructions.

Basic computer skills;
Word, Excel, and Outlook experience preferred.

Ability to write and generate reports.

Demonstrated ability to relate to and work with people of all ages, races, and socioeconomic backgrounds.

Teamwork with positive interpersonal communication; willingness to learn and share ideas.

Knowledge and ability to operate and maintain grounds, maintenance, and custodial equipment.

Dependability and punctuality.

Knowledge of proper use of cleaning chemicals, supplies, techniques, and equipment.

Motivational and problem‑solving capabilities with integrity, ethics, and dedication to MCC mission.

Preferred state of Michigan license in one of the following trades:
Boiler operator, Plumbing, Mechanical, Electrical, or Building Contractor.

Ability to work effectively with people of diverse backgrounds and promote a positive working environment, cooperation, and conflict resolution.

Capacity to adapt to frequently changing job tasks and priorities.

Ability to lift 80 lbs. minimum.

Valid Michigan driver’s license meeting MCC vehicle operator standards; ability to travel to all campus locations.

Willingness to work overtime if required.

Responsibilities

Maintain and ensure clean grounds and parking lots, including litter pick‑up, traffic cone placement, and maintenance of traffic cones, blocking equipment, and traffic signs.
Adhere to all safety and health regulations; report unsafe conditions.
Make off‑campus pick‑ups and deliveries, including those requiring truck or forklift.
Assist grounds crew with snow removal, mowing, lawn maintenance, pruning, leaf cleanup, and other maintenance tasks.
Maintain MCC vans, trucks, and autos for daily use: washing, waxing, fueling, oil changes, lubrication, and minor repairs.
Maintain vehicle service records and arrange service through the Physical Plant Office.
Perform duties related to maintenance of all MCC buildings and grounds, including painting, furniture and equipment repair, assembly, and general repairs.
Maintain emergency power generators, track oil changes, fuel/oil levels, monthly run tests, and maintain maintenance records.
Keep work and material storage areas neat and clean.
Be available for overtime work during snow removal or emergencies.
Provide friendly and positive customer service to all supported departments.
Perform additional duties as assigned, such as assisting grounds crews or external contractors with equipment repairs, typical cleaning functions, machine operation, event set‑up and clean‑up, furniture and equipment assembly, light bulb replacement, and training program participation.
