Position

Summary

The principal function of an employee in this class is to perform a variety of routine manual and semi‑skilled maintenance, repair, and cleaning work in an assigned area of responsibility to ensure a safe and pleasant environment for City residents. The work is performed under the supervision and direction of an assigned supervisor, but considerable leeway is granted for the exercise of independent judgment and initiative.

The nature of the work performed requires that an employee in this class establish and maintain effective working relationships with the assigned supervisor, other City employees, and the general public. The principal duties of this position are performed in an outdoor environment in a variety of terrains and weather conditions with exposure to airborne pathogens and chemicals.

Essential Functions
  • Performs the full range of manual and semi‑skilled maintenance and repair work in an assigned area of responsibility.
  • Perform opening and locking duties for park restrooms throughout the year.
  • Performs restroom and picnic shelter cleaning to ensure a clean environment for the public which includes toilets, sinks, floors, tables, drinking fountains, etc.
  • Direct and oversee the activities of an assigned maintenance crew and/or seasonal workers to ensure the safe and efficient execution of all work assignments.
  • Maintains and repairs City parks, pathways, right‑of‑way areas and other city properties.
  • Maintains buildings and grounds by painting, repairing or replacing fixtures such as toilet paper dispensers, soap dispensers, and baby changing stations, and facilities signage, stocking/restocking restroom supplies as needed.
  • Conduct inspections and perform maintenance on park amenities, including playgrounds, drinking fountains, benches, shelters, restrooms, trash can enclosures, and sports courts/fields.
  • Assist in the setup of city events and activities by ensuring supplies are stocked and replenished during peak periods.
  • Assists in monthly inventory of cleaning/janitorial supplies warehoused.
  • Assists in coordinating bulk orders of supplies needed annually.
  • Maintains parks and City grounds in clean and safe conditions, including picking up trash, plowing, de‑icing and snow removal and general maintenance as necessary.
  • Operates and maintains a variety of equipment, including trucks, hand tools, power tools, electronic test meters, janitorial equipment, pressure washers, and other trade‑specific equipment.
  • Assist in Fire Extinguisher inspections and pull/return for yearly services.
  • Work closely with other City departments and/or civic organizations and community volunteers.
