Responsibilities
  • Perform specialized maintenance in the Public Utilities Department.
  • Conduct skilled manual labor for construction, maintenance, and repair of utilities collection, transmission, and distribution systems.
  • Locate and mark underground utility lines; interpret blueprints; operate camera and vacuum truck to view and clean sewer pipe networks, gravity systems, and service connections.
  • Clean and inspect lift stations, sanitary gravity lines, force mains, and service lines; vacuum debris from manholes and stations; monitor and pump down high‑level stations.
  • Cut and repair sewer lines with chop saw; conduct grouting on service and gravity lines; clear blockages.
  • Clean storm drains and inspect manholes and lift stations after relining.
  • Fill water reservoirs from fire hydrants; rebuild pumps; install, repair, or replace valves; disassemble, clean, and inspect camera equipment; replace light bulbs.
  • Maintain and clean trucks; drain debris tanks on trucks.
  • Develop and maintain the County odor control program; review designs; conduct field studies; monitor and record test‑unit data; maintain and paint pumps, motors, pipes, and hydrants.
  • Assist with degasification/reactor cleaning and sludge systems; perform preventive maintenance on equipment; assemble and repair backflow devices; assemble bacteriological sample stations; conduct cross‑connection control inspections on customers.
  • Perform water sample field testing; install or replace water mains, fire hydrants, sample stations, valves, air‑release valves and flushing stations; respond to customer service calls; replace water services, saddles, sidewalks, roads, and driveways; track assignments in maintenance management software.
  • Maintain buildings, machinery, and pipes at water plants and outlying stations; troubleshoot routine electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and other plant problems; perform pigging/swabbing at well fields; flush systems; repair, calibrate, and test equipment; perform wellfield drawdowns; reset telemetry systems; replace high‑service well and chemical pumps; replace motors.
  • Conduct valve maintenance, operate vacuum truck mechanisms to clean valves, catalog blueprints, respond to main breaks and isolate systems; raise or lower valve boxes and replace damaged or outdated valves; map and tag water valves using GPS; perform annual compliance on valves and hydrants.
  • Respond to after‑hours emergency calls during on‑call duty; repair main and service breaks; evaluate water losses; determine needed manpower, equipment, parts, and materials; request bacteria samples from laboratory.
  • Follow safety procedures, use safety equipment, and monitor the work environment to ensure safety of employees and other individuals.
  • Communicate with supervisor, employees, other divisions, contractors, utility companies, the public, and other individuals as needed to coordinate activities, review status, exchange information, or resolve problems.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or GED. (GEDs must be issued by the American Council on Education through an approved GED Administrator.)
  • At least one (1) year of related experience.
  • Fingerprinting required.
Licenses & Certificates
  • Valid Florida Driver’s License with any applicable endorsement(s) to drive a county vehicle as provided in CMA 5805.
Compensation & Conditions

Salary offers above the minimum pay grade may be considered based on qualifications. Essential employees may be required to work during an undeclared or declared emergency. The County’s Administrative Office will determine who must work on an incident‑by‑incident basis.
