Job SummaryPerforms various tasks in a landfill including containing loose refuse to prevent scattering and directing traffic at the landfill.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Manually pick up windblown paper from periphery of landfill; carry a large plastic trash bag and walk along the fenced border of the landfill, as well as on exterior land adjacent to public property; pull paper from fence and lift loose paper from the ground, depositing refuse in bag until full.
- Use mobile vacuum to gather loose paper and refuse. Drive tractor pulling vacuum along the fenced border of the landfill and on the exterior land adjacent to the public property. When destination reached, park and descend the tractor. Grasp vacuum hose handle and guide to vacuum loose paper from fence and ground. After vacuuming, ascend tractor cab and drive forward, then park and descend cab, repeating the process as necessary, working around outer edge of landfill.
- During summer months, when traffic at landfill is heavy, station at landfill entrance in chair to direct traffic, direct flow of trucks, and communicate with drivers verbally or by hand signals.
- Lifts construction materials for projects related to site maintenance (lumber, bags of concrete mix, hand tools, etc.) and uses hand tools such as shovels, picks, axes and chainsaws.
- Manually separate metal, white goods, lumber and cardboard from trash on the tipping floor at landfills with transfer station.
Required Qualifications
- Licenses as required by Local, State, Federal, Environmental and/or Health/Safety Regulatory agencies.
