Custodial Worker I

Insures the hospital is clean and all federal, state, and local laws are adhered to in order to meet or exceed standards. Behavioral Action Steps:

  • Must consistently work in a safe manner to insure staff and community are in no harm

    Job Duties
    - Work Outcome:
    Insures the hospital is clean and all federal, state, and local laws are adhered to in order to standards.

    Behavioral Action Steps:

  • Disinfects and sanitizes restroom shower walls, sinks, by using bath room caddy machine, door handles, glass, and stainless steel
  • Trash removal, dust mopping, wet mopping, scrubbing/ stripping/ waxing/ buffing tile floors, vacuuming/shampooing carpets, and performing dusting by removal of dust particles and bugs from light fixtures, ledges, and windows sills
  • Products must be adequately supplied to client areas
  • Ability to operate a manual and high speed burnisher, and, floor care machines
  • Ability to process, count, arrange, and fill unit linen orders
  • Assures biohazard waste and sharps containers are checked daily and removed when certain criteria are met, following policies and procedures
  • At the end of each shift, responsible for replenishment of cleaning supplies and products for the next shift
  • Assures all equipment used is returned to the storage location clean and ready for use
  • Policies and Procedures – Work Outcome:
    Remains in compliance with hospital policies and department procedures by making themselves available for ongoing training through monthly meetings and/or annual hospital wide updates conducted by supervisors, whether by means of organized meetings, one to one training, or computer based training.   • Promptly put into action department rules by cooperating with management and staff members
  • Follows assigned work schedule daily, weekly, and monthly
  • Promptly alert a supervisor and/or department head of potential hazards, missed completion of tasks, and any work assignments that may need more attention
  • Follows all policies and procedures for appropriate computer usage. Maintains required access to perform required computer work. Shows evidence of basic computer knowledge and skill for using Outlook (composing, sending and retrieving email)
  • Performance and Productivity
    - Work Outcome:
    Insures a consistent level of productivity and performance is maintained on all work assignments while adhering to scheduling and time constraints. Behavioral Action Steps

  • Accepts modification in work assignments, and additional special assignments
  • Remains in assigned work areas through completion of work assignment
  • Completes daily assignments in accord with departmental time and quality standards
  • Personal attire must be conducive to perform job responsibilities, and meets all state, agency, and department policies
  • Takes approved breaks and lunch periods in approved areas, as scheduled by management
  • Must not use work time for personal business
  • Returns from breaks and lunches in a punctual manner, ready to resume work, so as not to hinder productivity
  • Training – Work Outcome:
    By November 30th of each calendar year, the employee completes the competency training fair as prescribed by Staff Development and completes any other required training related to their job classification. Provides proof of completed training to the direct supervisor. Behavioral Action Steps

  • Complete all assigned Competency Training according to directives from Training and Staff Development staff within the Train Track Cloud system and any hands on as assigned
  • Works closely with direct supervisor (Custodial Worker Supervisor
    1) to insure any other training required by their classification is completed by November 30th
  • Provides proof of training as directed by supervisor, if applicable
  • Standards of Quality – Work Outcome:
    Insures performance is at the highest standard ensuring quality is maintained. Behavioral Action Steps

  • Ensures client and non-client areas are cleaned according to hospital standards
  • Uses universal precaution
  • Uses safe cleaning practices by keeping equipment, supplies, and chemicals in close proximity at all times
  • Properly identifies potential hazard by use of signage (eg: wet floor sign)
  • Exercises chemical safety (eg: proper chemical storage)
  • Has awareness of mold (eg: shower curtains, shower walls)
  • Is aware and able to report client room hazards (eg: broken furniture, and missing items)
