On-Call Facilities Assistant
Position Type: Part-time, hourly, as needed
Reports To: Facilities Manager / Head of School
Location: Episcopal School of Nashville
Position OverviewEpiscopal School of Nashville seeks a reliable and skilled On-Call Facilities Assistant to support the safe, functional, and welcoming operation of the school's campus.
This person will provide coverage when the Facilities Manager is absent due to illness, vacation, or other leave and may also assist the Facilities Manager with specific maintenance or campus projects. This is an as-needed position with no guaranteed number of hours. Some assignments may arise on short notice.
Responsibilities- Perform basic building, grounds, and equipment maintenance and repairs.
- Respond to routine facilities requests from school employees.
- Identify urgent maintenance or safety concerns and report them promptly to the appropriate administrator.
- Assist with opening, closing, and securing designated campus areas.
- Support setup and breakdown for school events.
- Move furniture, equipment, deliveries, and supplies as needed.
- Assist the Facilities Manager with designated maintenance, repair, and improvement projects.
- Provide campus access to approved vendors and contractors when assigned.
- Use tools and equipment safely and return them to their proper locations.
- Follow all school safety, security, and emergency procedures.
- Maintain appropriate discretion and professionalism while working around students, employees, and families.
- Complete other facilities-related duties as assigned.
- Experience in building maintenance, facilities operations, construction, repair work, or a related field.
- General knowledge of basic plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, painting, and grounds maintenance.
- Ability to recognize when a repair requires a licensed professional or additional support.
- Strong judgment, dependability, and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and follow established procedures.
- Clear and timely communication.
- Reliable transportation and the ability to report to campus when assignments are accepted.
- Successful completion of required background and reference checks.
The position requires the ability, with or without reasonable accommodation, to:
- Lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Stand, walk, bend, reach, and climb ladders.
- Work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Safely operate basic tools and maintenance equipment.
Hours will vary according to school needs and may include weekday coverage, school breaks, and occasional evening or weekend assignments. Assignments may involve planned project work or short-notice coverage.
Compensation is $20-25 per hour.
