Junior Custodian I (Nights 2:30 pm – 11:00 pm

The Town of Natick’s Facilities Department is seeking a dedicated, dependable, and motivated self-starter to join its custodial team. The successful candidate will perform custodial and general building operations within assigned facilities, including routine and emergency cleaning, event support, and light maintenance.

The Junior Custodian II/Floater provides coverage for other Junior Custodian II positions as needed and must be flexible in working across assigned facilities. The position may also provide directions to Junior Custodian staff and temporary or part-time employees.

Work Schedule: Monday–Friday, 2:30 p.m. – 11:00 p.m.

Work Location: Kennedy Middle School

Reports To: Senior Custodian / Junior Custodian II / Custodial Supervisor

Supervises: None assigned. May supervise assign temporary summer help.

• Responsible for all custodial operations in assigned building, including scheduled and emergency cleaning, functions, and maintenance operations. Substitutes for Junior Custodian II as needed.
• Performs a variety of cleaning and maintenance duties, as assigned, including but not limited to: vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, washing, waxing, carpet cleaning, dusting, polishing, window cleaning. Trash removal and recycling (if applicable) as assigned. Snow removal may be required, on and off shift.
• Other duties include:
  • Boiler operation,
  • Light bulb replacement,
  • Minor preventive maintenance on equipment,
  • Machinery and systems such as lubrication,
  • Cleaning, filter change and the like,
  • Minor painting, plumbing,
  • Heating unit repair,
  • Carpentry,
  • Locker and lock repair.
  • Furniture repair and glide maintenance.
  • Exterior grounds - maintenance and mowing.
  • Assists in the movement of furniture, equipment or machinery as required. Performs roof drain clearing and maintenance.
  • All other duties as assigned.

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Previous custodial or maintenance experience is a plus
• Valid Class D driver’s license required.
• Successful completion of the required fingerprinting and State and Federal CORI/SORI background checks requirements.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to tactfully address questions and daily concerns of building occupants and rental groups.
• Thorough knowledge of commercial, industrial, and office cleaning equipment, materials, and procedures.
• Ability to safely operate commonly used power cleaning equipment.
• Ability to properly use safety devices and personal protective equipment (PPE) and follow established safety practices and procedures.
• Ability to work independently and effectively as part of a team, with flexibility to work in different facilities as operational needs require.

• Ability to work in a standard building environment including walking, standing, bending and climbing stairs (up to three stories).
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and occasionally move or lift up to 75 pounds.
• Able to climb and work on ladders.

Starting Hourly Rate: $23.2377 (Step
1)

Full Pay Range: $23.2377 – $28.4385 per hour

Step increases are provided in accordance with the applicable union agreement.
