Facilities Manager

Riverbend School is seeking a Facilities Manager to oversee the daily maintenance, safety, and appearance of school facilities and grounds. This position reports to the Chief Financial Officer and supervises contracted maintenance and repair professionals, as well as part-time and seasonal help.

Scope of work includes:

  • Daily maintenance, safety, and appearance of school facilities and grounds

Experience requirements:

  • 3+ years experience in facilities maintenance, preferably in a school setting
  • Self starter, adaptable, dependable, entrepreneurial and organized
  • Good interpersonal skills, and able to direct the work of maintenance staff and outside contractors
  • Must be able to understand and carry out oral and written instructions
  • Must be able to use computer technology for word processing, email and internet
  • General knowledge of and an ability to operate a variety of tools and power equipment
  • Knowledge of standard practices, materials, tools, and terminology of building trades
  • Able and willing to drive the school's minibus (no CDL required)
  • Must be comfortable working in a culturally diverse environment and committed to embracing differences and valuing multiple perspectives
  • Conversant with/knowledge of HVAC, mechanical and building systems/technology a plus

Education/certification requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Valid driver's license

General responsibilities include:

  • Supervising and coordinating all maintenance and custodial services for all buildings and grounds occupied by Riverbend School, including satellite properties
  • Being on call for facility emergencies and available for occasional evening and weekend hours
  • Ability to walk, stand for long periods, maintain balance, climb ladders, lift up to 60 pounds, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, and reach above shoulder level; exposure to inclement weather and cleaning chemicals

Specific responsibilities include:

  • Constituent relations: building collaborative relations with other administrators and supportive of the faculty of Riverbend; maintaining positive relationships with town officials and contractors
  • Administration: supervising and inspecting work of outside facilities contractors; managing part time, seasonal help; conducting routine inspections of buildings and grounds for maintenance, safety and custodial issues; performing minor corrective, preventative maintenance on equipment and grounds; maintaining inventory of supplies, materials and equipment needed for maintenance and custodial work; maintaining safety records; administering building security systems; serving as primary liaison with town safety officials and alarm companies for building inspections and oversight of fire/safety drills;

    coordinating with administrators to support events with setup and breakdown of furniture, tents, signs, etc.; performing event setup/breakdown, housekeeping/miscellaneous cleanup tasks as needed; advising and/or responding to emergencies on a 24 hour basis as needed
  • School culture: demonstrating a strong commitment to professional ethics; demonstrating an understanding of and commitment to Montessori education; modeling the Montessori values of grace, courtesy, and respect
  • Finance: managing the Facilities maintenance budget; making recommendations for purchase of building equipment and supplies in support of the capital improvement plan and as needs arise
  • Other: taking on other duties as assigned by the CFO and the Head of School
