Job Description

Nevada State University invites applications for the position of Student Worker - Tutor for the Academic Success Center (ASC). The student worker will provide academic guidance through FREE peer-to-peer support via tutoring, embedded course support, and study/test-taking strategies for a variety of subject areas.

Tutors will facilitate one-on-one or group sessions, both in-person and online, for a variety of subjects to provide guidance in understanding course concepts, study strategies, and/or suggest appropriate campus referrals. Tutoring is a great way to help others while learning more about the subject yourself and is an excellent opportunity to prepare for graduate school or for a career as an educator or researcher.

Tutors will participate in pre-semester and ongoing training in best practices for academic support/learning theory, facilitating collaborative learning, and teamwork. All ASC staff will provide basic customer service at the front desk during their shifts.

Hiring will be determined in part by subjects that are most needed for the upcoming semester. Subject to change based on course offerings.

Core Responsibilities:

* Conduct one-on-one or group tutoring sessions in-person and online for approved subjects daily/weekly.

* Hold drop-in tutoring sessions and/or drop-in tutoring labs where multiple students can walk in for tutoring.

* Assist with marketing and advertising sessions to the campus community.

* Coordinate with faculty on course-specific materials and resources.

* Prepare for tutoring sessions and document sessions daily/weekly.

* Assist with front desk coverage and customer service (answering phones, scheduling appointments, student referrals, etc.).
