SUMMARY

The maintenance I-IV employee performs assigned tasks relative to maintenance services to ensure acceptable standards of overall safety, sanitation and physical appearance of school district buildings, grounds and property.

EXAMPLES OF

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The maintenance I-IV employee:
  • Performs ground maintenance activities such as mowing lawns, trimming hedges, removing weeds, and raking and disposing of leaves and refuse.
  • Sprays lawns, shrubs and trees with fertilizer, herbicides and insecticides.
  • Keeps tools and equipment in good working order.
  • Acts as tradesman for an area of responsibility assigned by the supervisor of maintenance and operations.
  • Performs routine maintenance and repair on facilities and equipment, including but not limited to plumbing, painting, electrical, carpentry, grounds, mechanical, etc.
  • Follows all safety procedures and precautions when performing maintenance services.
  • Services heating and cooling units/systems, as specified by manufacturers.
  • Performs unscheduled maintenance tasks as directed.
  • Reports equipment malfunctions or breakdowns to the supervisor as soon as possible.
  • Ensures that work/assignment areas are cleaned and equipment, tools, supplies, etc are properly stored before leaving area on breaks or at the end of the work day.
  • Keeps work areas free of hazardous conditions, i.e. grease/oil spills, excess supplies, equipment, etc. to assure that all safety rules/regulations are followed at all times.
  • Assists other maintenance personnel in their areas of responsibility when necessary.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor of maintenance and operations.
  • Consistently demonstrates effective problem solving skills.
  • Makes all job-related decisions based on the needs of the students and district as identified in policy and by supervisor.

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES

KNOWLEDGE OF

The individual must:
  • Have a level of skill, proficiency and knowledge of mechanical, electrical and carpentry trades to analyze requirements and the ability to repair school district facilities and equipment and to perform routine ground maintenance.
  • Be knowledgeable of safe maintenance and grounds-keeping practices, procedures and guidelines.
ABILITIES

The individual must have the ability to:
  • Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentage, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
