Position Summary

The Radiological Control Department is looking for a high performing individual to perform RCT duties as a Technician I.

Key Responsibilities
  • Under the guidance of a qualified technician, perform radiological surveys and monitor radiological conditions and work practices utilized by MSTS and/or subcontractors in assigned areas.
  • Verify that radiological instrumentation (air sampling equipment, dose rate meters, contamination monitors, etc.) is functioning properly before use.
  • Post approved radiological signs to ensure that radiological worksites are properly identified and secured.
  • Follow radiological work permits, work packages, and procedures, ensuring compliance with approved work control documents.
  • Participate in briefings concerning radiological conditions and requirements of particular work situations.
  • Generate records for radiological surveys and other job activities using the appropriate forms and logbooks.
  • Implement stop‑work authority responsibly when radiological or safety conditions warrant.
  • Maintain training and qualifications current and attend onsite and off‑site training as necessary.
  • Perform related work as assigned by supervisor under the guidance of a qualified technician.
  • Perform other duties assigned by management.
Qualifications
  • High School diploma or equivalent (vocational training preferred).
  • Ability to work independently or in a team environment on a wide variety of tasks.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Adobe Acrobat, and Outlook.
  • Must be fitted for and qualified to use respiratory protection and personal protective equipment.
  • Participate in National Response Asset Deployment activities.
  • May be required to participate in the Human Reliability Program (HRP).
  • Qualify for the DOE Radiological Control Technician standardized core training programs within 1 month of start date.
  • Self‑motivated with the ability to complete tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Basic knowledge of radiation protection principles.
  • Work location:

    Nevada National Security Site (65 miles northwest of Las Vegas, Nevada).
  • Work schedule:

    4/10s Monday through Thursday (subject to change); overtime may be required.
  • May be requested to perform on‑call work and work non‑standard hours.
  • Pre‑placement physical examination and drug screen required.
  • Valid driver’s license required.
Security Clearance

MSTS is required by DOE directive to conduct a pre‑employment drug test and background review. Applicants offered employment must obtain and maintain a DOE Q‑level security clearance (U.S. citizenship, 18+ years). The position will be cleared to Q level.

Salary and Benefits

Hourly range: $21.84 – $32.76. Salary determined based on position market value, candidate education and experience, and internal equity.
