Job DescriptionMission Support and Test Services, LLC (MSTS) manages and operates the Nevada National Security Site (NNSS) for the U.S. National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA). The Fire Alarm Technician (Principal Technologist) will install, test, inspect and maintain the fire alarm systems and electronics in a highly secure facility, at the Nevada National Security Site.
Key Responsibilities
- Respond to outages and trouble calls after hours in a timely manner.
- Interpret schematic diagrams to determine cause of alarm failure, repair system and ensure the system is functioning properly.
- Maintain electronic components for repairs and maintain a spare parts inventory.
- Determine tools and components needed to repair and return the system to operational mode.
- Plan and conduct work requiring judgment in the evaluation, selection, application, adaptation, and modification of standard techniques, guidelines, procedures, and criteria. Devises new approaches to maintenance, operations, or testing.
- Assist with the preparation of operations manuals.
- Plan, guide, or prepare administrative and technical documents as required for maintenance, operations, or testing.
- Coordinate project assignments among engineering, construction, specialty staff groups, clients and vendors.
- Work in an underground environment and areas that are difficult to move around in to troubleshoot and repair systems.
- Repeatedly climb stairs to accomplish tasks and be able to carry required equipment and parts necessary to conduct repairs.
- Prioritize work to maintain schedule and periodically check systems for malfunction.
- Associate degree in field related to the position plus at least 9 years’ progressive related experience or High School diploma plus 11 years’ progressive related experience.
- At least one of the following is required:
- NICET level 1
- Nevada state fire marshal F card.
- Notifier factory training.
- Experience in electronics and an understanding of schematic drawings and familiarity with telephone circuits, both 2 wire and 4 wire. Working knowledge of computers and operating systems.
- Must be willing to work in underground facilities.
- Must be willing to work in a nuclear facility and follow all safety and security requirements, including the Human Reliability Program (HRP).
- Be a flexible self‑starter with the ability to learn and adapt to changing procedures and equipment.
- The primary work location will be at the Nevada National Security Site (located 65 miles northwest of Las Vegas, Nevada).
- Work schedule will be 4/10s Monday through Thursday (subject to change).
- Pre‑placement physical examination, which includes a drug screen, is required. MSTS maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing.
