Position Title
Temporary Maintenance Helper – $17.82 per hour
Position SummaryUnder the supervision of the Site Principal, designee, and the Operations Maintenance Supervisor, the primary responsibility of the Site Maintenance Employee is to maintain the physical school facilities in operating condition so that the full educational use may be made of them at all times.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Communicates ongoing maintenance issues, concerns, and repairs to the District Operations Supervisor.
- Directs custodial crew regarding the routine tasks of maintaining the school facility in a condition of operating excellence, cleanliness, and safety.
- Inspects mechanical equipment to ensure it is operating properly, checking water and oil flows, pressures, temperatures, and quantities; takes action to maintain them within safe operating limits and adjusts controls as needed.
- Performs inspections and preventative maintenance according to an established schedule, including oiling, lubricating, replacing gaskets and seals, belts, filters, and strainers, and assisting in the replacement or repair of major system components.
- Replaces light bulbs, fluorescent tubes, ballasts, switches, outlets, relays, plumbing fixtures, and performs minor carpentry repairs, wall, floor, and ceiling repairs, and spot painting.
- Inspects and maintains recreational/sports equipment, bleachers, backstops, and performs basic landscaping care.
- Maintains logs of all work performed, instrument readings, and MSDS entries, and ensures proper storage of hazardous chemicals.
- Serves as an on‑call person for maintenance issues during non‑school hours and participates in the site safety committee.
- Maintains and updates inventory of supplies and furniture and orders additional supplies annually.
- Assists with all required county, state, and federal inspections of facilities and equipment.
- Participates in the evaluation process of the site custodial crew.
- Demonstrates the ability to appropriately handle stress and interact with supervisors, coworkers, students, and the community.
- Exhibits regular and consistent punctuality and attendance.
- Performs other tasks related to the position as assigned by the District Operations Supervisor.
May involve supervision and/or participation in the work of an assigned Lyon County School District facility on a daily basis. Work hours may include nights and weekends when required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities- Mechanical maintenance and repair techniques for a school physical plant.
- Basic to advanced understanding and skills in plumbing, electrical, HVAC, swamp coolers, and boilers.
- Basic computer/technological skills.
- Use good judgment in applying established guidelines to solve work problems.
- Work independently and without close supervision while following direction from the District Operations Supervisor.
- Supervise custodial crew while overseeing daily maintenance tasks.
- Work and communicate effectively with all people contacted in the work environment.
- Understand and carry out moderately complex written and oral instructions.
Education, Training and
Experience:
High school graduation or equivalent (e.g., GED, college, technical or trade school transcript, foreign equivalency).
- Specialized knowledge of three‑phase and single‑phase power, boilers, hot water circulating pumps, chiller towers, HVAC systems, swamp coolers, and water source heat pumps (desired but not required).
- Physical and mental stamina commensurate with the responsibilities of the position.
- Personal characteristics including poise, perspective, integrity, flexibility, and a professional appearance.
A valid driver’s license that allows the applicant/employee to legally operate a motor vehicle in Nevada; the license must be maintained for the duration of the assignment.
