Position: RETAIL STOREKEEPER 1 - MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS WAIVED

Overview

This position is responsible for managing the operations of the Gift Shop at Cathedral Gorge State Park. The role combines retail management and customer service to help create a welcoming and educational experience for park visitors.

Key Responsibilities
  • Greet guests and provide park and merchandise information.
  • Operate the Point of Sale (POS) system to process retail transactions.
  • Manage and restock inventory, including receiving product deliveries.
  • Work directly with vendors to place orders and develop site‑specific products that reflect the unique features of the park.
  • Handle cash accurately and ensure timely deposits.
  • Keep the gift shop and stockroom stocked and organized, with attractive and shopper‑friendly displays.
  • Perform basic custodial duties (dusting, sweeping, vacuuming, etc.).
  • Use general office equipment and Microsoft Word and Excel.

PER EXECUTIVE ORDER 2026‑001, ALL MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS HAVE BEEN WAIVED FOR THIS POSITION UNTIL JUNE 30, 2026.

Qualifications
  • Experience – One year of store keeping or retail experience that included stocking, sales and/or customer service.
  • Inventory Management – Assist in identifying expired or under‑performing merchandise, conduct physical inventory counts, determine order quantities, verify price and availability with vendors, research catalog and online product availability, procure merchandise through direct purchase, and enter purchase information into a POS or related computer‑based system.
  • Receiving and Inspection – Receive and inspect merchandise to ensure no damage, quantity is correct, and order specifications are met; enter new inventory into a POS system with correct price and markup; process receiver documentation and prepare invoices for payment and accounting.
  • Store Layout and Merchandising – Develop and implement a store layout plan to maximize visual appeal and increase sales; shelve merchandise in proper locations; store and rotate perishable items per established procedures; recommend markdowns; amend POS and re‑price merchandise accordingly.
  • Working Knowledge – Proper storage and rotation of food and dated perishable merchandise.
  • General Knowledge – Sales and merchandising methods; store keeping procedures; computer functions and keyboarding techniques; recordkeeping, both hard copy and electronic; inventory methods.
  • Abilities – Systematically arrange stock into categories; learn and apply state and agency policies related to merchandise ordering; perform basic calculations; follow procedures and sequence; establish and maintain cooperative relationships; read catalogs and instructions; complete standard forms; lift and move heavy objects.
