Group Supervisor 3 (GS3) with Caliente Youth Center

The Division of Child and Family Services is hiring for a Group Supervisor 3 (GS3) with Caliente Youth Center. Under limited supervision, the GS3 oversees the activities of youths within an assigned unit. Observe work habits, social behavior, and attitudes to ensure compliance with established institutional rules and regulations. Provide guidance and assistance with assignments, appropriate behavior, proper dress, and personal hygiene.

Participate as a member of the treatment team in implementing treatment plans and document youths' progress and concerns.

Conduct intake interviews, review case history files, and complete required forms and documentation related to personal, medical, and family history. Interview youths and document personality traits and functioning levels. Provide immediate needs, including clothing, supplies, and room assignments. Orient and instruct youths on unit rules and regulations. Conduct searches of youths and their possessions for unauthorized items and contraband.

Perform security checks of assigned units to maintain the safety and security of youths and the facility. Conduct head counts, room and body searches, and checks of windows and doors. Maintain secure locations to prevent escapes and identify controlled substances, contraband, or weapons. Document actions and report abnormalities to the supervisor. Respond to emergency situations as needed.

Maintain individual case records documenting youths' behaviors and activities. Complete incident reports, chronological reports, accountability lists, off-grounds reports, personal account logs, money withdrawal requests, clothing records, and other required documentation for review and placement in case files.

Instruct youths in life, educational, vocational, and pre-employment skills using prescribed methods. Provide training in areas such as fire suppression, culinary procedures, laundry, and first aid. Assist with homework and monitor, evaluate, and document youths' progress.

Participate in recreational and structured activities and serve as a positive role model. Officiate events, provide individual or team instruction, explain rules, secure and set up equipment, arrange transportation as required, and coordinate schedules with facility programs and security requirements.

Participate as a member of the treatment team by assisting with the development and evaluation of treatment plans and making recommendations regarding alternative treatment methods. Coordinate and oversee group and individual treatment sessions; develop session goals, rules, and content using prescribed methods; document treatment and activities; and prepare individual progress summaries for review by the treatment team, committing judge, parole officer, legal guardian, and institutional staff.

Perform related duties as assigned. This is the advanced journey level in the series Group Supervisors perform duties involving the education, employment, training, treatment, care and custody of juvenile offenders residing within a State Youth Training Center; maintain comprehensive records of assigned youths' program activities; and provide individual guidance pursuant to State or federal laws and regulations.

Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in psychology, social work, sociology, counseling and guidance, human services, social services, education, criminal justice or closely related field and one year of experience working with youth in a custodial, employment program, therapeutic, educational, recreational program or correctional setting with responsibility for performing vocational assessments, making oral presentations during group sessions and treatment team meetings, and providing vocational and life skills training to juvenile offenders;

OR graduation from high school or equivalent education and three years of experience as described above; OR one year as a Group Supervisor II in Nevada State service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience as described above.
