Job Description

Scope

The Facilities Maintenance Team Member helps maintain a safe, functional, and attractive school environment for students, employees, and families. This hands‑on position focuses primarily on building repairs, general maintenance, and keeping our campus facilities in excellent working condition. This position is located at our Indiana (New Albany) Campus.

Qualifications

The candidate shall possess characteristics that reflect:

  • A daily example of the highest Christian virtue both in and out of school
  • Commitment to faithful attendance and support of a church whose beliefs are in agreement with the Statement of Faith for Christian Academy School System
  • Agreement and belief that The Bible is the final authority concerning truth, morality, and the proper conduct of mankind

The ideal candidate shall:

  • Have a general maintenance aptitude and enjoy working with their hands
  • Have general knowledge of building maintenance, including electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and HVAC systems
  • Demonstrate a willingness and desire to learn new maintenance skills, trade‑related tasks, and equipment
  • Be dependable, flexible, and able to work independently as well as part of a team

Accountabilities/Responsibilities

  • Respond to work requests in a timely manner and complete assigned building maintenance and repair tasks, including drywall repair, mudding, patching, taping, sanding, painting, and minor concrete or asphalt repairs.
  • Assist with general building systems and maintenance needs, including basic electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, and other repairs.
  • Perform routine facility inspections, identify maintenance and safety concerns, and assist with maintaining compliance and required records, including coordination with the Fire Marshal, Health Inspectors, and other agencies as needed.
  • Assist with custodial needs, classroom setup, and campus events, including moving and organizing tables, chairs, desks, and other furnishings during the school day and occasional evenings.
  • Safely perform physically demanding work, including lifting and moving 50–100 pounds independently or heavier items with assistance; bending, kneeling, squatting, reaching, climbing, working overhead, and working from ladders, scaffolding, or lifts while using hand tools.
  • Follow established safety procedures and properly use PPE, safety barriers, lockout/tagout devices, SDS information, and other safety equipment and procedures.
  • Use computers and technology for work orders, email, texting, voicemail, files, photographs, documents, attachments, and internet‑based tasks; operate a vehicle as needed and maintain insurability.
  • Work with student interns and temporary/summer employees by providing direction and instruction as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Facilities Manager.

Reporting Relationship:

The Facilities Maintenance Team Member will be responsible to the Christian Academy Campus Facilities Manager.
