Every safe classroom, ready playground, and road-ready vehicle supports a child’s day. At Sunshine Schools NC, you will take ownership of the practical work that keeps our centers safe, welcoming, compliant, and running well.
This hands‑on role combines facility maintenance with coordination of preventive maintenance and safety checks for company vehicles. You will work with approved vendors to schedule service and repairs; you are not expected to perform automotive repairs yourself.
What You’ll Own- Perform general maintenance and minor repairs in classrooms, common areas, playgrounds, and outdoor spaces.
- Complete routine facility inspections and address safety, maintenance, and licensing‑readiness issues before they become larger problems.
- Maintain clean, organized, hazard‑free environments that support state and local childcare licensing requirements.
- Support readiness for fire, health, licensing, and other facility inspections.
- Coordinate preventive maintenance and required service for company vehicles, including oil changes, inspections, tire service, and approved repairs.
- Conduct and document routine vehicle‑safety checks, including tire tread, visible condition, and other concerns affecting safe child transportation.
- Promptly report and coordinate resolution of vehicle issues so buses and other transportation vehicles are safe, compliant, and ready for service.
- Maintain organized facility and vehicle service records.
- Respond to urgent maintenance or transportation‑safety needs after hours and on weekends when needed.
- Travel between New Bern and Morehead City locations as assigned.
- Experience in general maintenance, handyman work, building upkeep, or facilities support.
- Working knowledge of basic facility systems, including plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, and minor repairs.
- A safety‑first mindset, strong attention to detail, and the ability to identify and communicate issues promptly.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize work orders, and coordinate with vendors.
- Reliable transportation for travel between assigned locations.
- Reliable weekend availability and flexibility for occasional after‑hours response.
- Ability to pass the NC DCDEE childcare background check.
- Completion of required medical screening and TB test.
- Authorization to work in the United States.
- Experience in childcare, schools, transportation, or another regulated environment.
- Familiarity with vehicle‑safety inspections, preventive‑maintenance coordination, or transportation compliance.
- Meaningful work that directly supports children’s safety and daily experience.
