Position Summary
Job Title: 2nd Shift Custodian (Full-time) – one opening at E.C. Goodwin Technical High School, New Britain, CT.
Shift &
Hours:
Full-time, 37.5 hours/week. Monday – Friday 2:15 pm – 10:15 pm. Year‑round; first shift during summer break.
- Perform custodial tasks and maintenance of dormitories, classrooms, offices, auditoriums, wards, kitchens, dining rooms, lavatories and outdoor areas (including trash removal).
- Dust, mop, sweep, scrub, strip, wax, and polish floors using appropriate equipment such as floor polishers and buffers.
- Wash, dust, and polish glass including windows, woodwork, walls, furniture and metal equipment.
- Make beds, check, mark, store, and issue linens, blankets, and clothing.
- Collect, count, and dispose of soiled laundry; empty and sterilize glassware, wash basins, and bedpans.
- Collect and dispose of trash; sweep walks; run errands; inspect buildings for damage and report conditions to supervisor.
- Perform minor maintenance, such as changing light bulbs, replacing fuses, lubricating hinges, drawers, cabinets, and, when needed, removing snow or ice from stairways and walkways.
- Move furniture and set up classrooms as required.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
- Any experience and training that provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed above.
- Interpersonal skills; oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to follow oral and written instructions.
- Ability to operate, care for, and perform minor maintenance on tools and equipment used in daily work.
- Ability to keep records.
- Experience performing custodial work in a school setting.
- Experience waxing and polishing floors using floor polishers and buffers.
- Experience removing snow and ice from stairways and walkways around schools or large buildings.
- Experience with deep cleaning and disinfecting large facilities.
- Experience moving furniture and setting up classrooms in a school environment.
- Experience performing minor maintenance on tools and equipment used in daily work.
Incumbents must possess adequate strength, stamina, agility, vision, and hearing, and maintain physical fitness to perform duties. A physical examination may be required. Workers may be expected to lift moderate to heavy weights and may be exposed to risk of injury from equipment or individuals.
