Overview

The Division of Institutional Planning & Operations (IP&O) employs a workforce of approximately 2,700 staff, represented by 15 collective negotiation agreements, and is responsible for institutional strategic initiatives and operations. These include planning and construction, facilities, public safety and emergency operations, environmental health and safety, transportation, housing, and auxiliary/retail operations.

Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking an Environmental Service Worker PT for the Division of Institutional Planning & Operations (IP&O). The primary purpose of the Environmental Services Worker is to perform various tasks to maintain a clean, safe, sanitary, and attractive environment.

• Ability to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in English sufficiently to carry out the duties of the position.

• Prior experience in institutional environmental services.
• Valid driver’s license.

The person in this position must be physically active. The position requires climbing or balance, taste or smell less than one third of the time, standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, talking or hearing up to two thirds of the time, walking two thirds of the time, and reaching with hands and arms over two thirds of the time. Lifting up to ten (10) pounds is required over two thirds of the time;

exerting force of 25 pounds up to two thirds of the time; exerting force of 50 or more pounds under one third of the time. The position requires close vision, distance vision, color vision, and depth perception. Ability to hear pager alerts and overhead pager radio messages. The work environment may expose the employee to wet or humid conditions, blood borne pathogens, dust, fumes, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, outdoor weather conditions, electrical shock, radiation, hazardous waste, work near moving mechanical parts, precarious places, and moderate to loud noise.
