POSITION SUMMARY

The Fleet Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for supervising a maintenance shop under the umbrella responsibility of a Maintenance Manager. The Supervisor leads a technician (mechanic) team that performs preventive maintenance and repair of a fleet, machinery that supports a post‑collection facility, and equipment that services the container shop. The Supervisor provides direction to technicians to ensure all repairs and maintenance of trucks (diesel and alternate fuel), containers, and other heavy‑duty equipment are performed in compliance with company safety and compliance standards, as well as all federal and state regulations.

The Supervisor plans and schedules repair work for the group to ensure that all work is completed safely and timely, reducing lost productivity.

Principal Responsibilities
  • Provide direction to all technicians and lead technicians to ensure that all repair and maintenance work is performed safely, efficiently, and timely.
  • Monitor operational performance and efficiency and redirect activities appropriately.
  • Report to management on performance and make recommendations for process or programmatic improvements.
  • Supervise technicians, including conducting daily shop huddles, fleet walks, coaching, counseling, training, performance evaluations, and making hiring or termination decisions with Human Resources.
  • Perform inspections of outside repairs to confirm work complies with safety and compliance procedures and regulations.
  • Identify training opportunities, document issues, and discuss corrective actions with technicians.
  • Conduct quality control inspections, track issues and resolution to ensure work is completed properly.
  • Oversee repair diagnostics on complex matters and provide coaching; may be required to road‑test vehicles to determine necessary repairs.
  • Manage shop inventory control to ensure necessary equipment and parts are available and purchases stay within budget; review and approve expenses.
  • Maintain advanced knowledge of engine, emission, transmission, brake, hydraulic, and electrical systems, and use it to perform preventive and repair maintenance on heavy equipment and vehicles.
  • Handle related administrative matters, including payroll, employee records, preventive and corrective maintenance records, data entry into Dossier Maintenance Software, budgeting, and goal setting.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or G.E.D.
  • Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Certification
  • Ase T2 Diesel Engine

  • T7 HVAC Systems
  • Ase T Master Certified
Minimum Requirements
  • 3 years of experience in maintenance working with heavy equipment.
  • 1 year of supervisory experience in a lead technician, supervisor, or other management role with knowledge of safe work practices, DOT, OSHA, and other federal and state regulations.

Pay Range

$86,400.00 to $* (actual range depends on locality).
