Overview
The Division of Institutional Planning & Operations (IP&O) employs a workforce of approximately 2,700 staff, represented by 15 collective negotiations agreements, and is responsible for institutional strategic initiatives and operations, which encompasses an expansive range of comprehensive service and business operations across the State of New Jersey. These include planning and construction, facilities, public safety and emergency operations, environmental health and safety, transportation, housing, and auxiliary/retail operations.
Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Security Systems Technician for the Division of Institutional Planning & Operations (IP&O). Primarily responsible for the installation and repair of the campus-wide card access security system. Duties include the installation of security panels, field interface devices, card readers, motion detectors, request to exit devices, door contacts, limit switches, fiber optic security cabling and all related control wiring.
- Works with the security system software to program additional points, troubleshoot existing alarms, points in trouble and controllers that are offline.
- Detects faulty operation of equipment, reports questionable conditions to supervisor; issues work orders to supervisor as necessary.
- Works with the security system software to develop regular reports to management on the status of campus security systems. This includes number of points in alarm and/or bypassed.
- Responsible for minimizing these points. Conducts inventory of equipment, materials and supplies.
- Advises management when to reorder stock.
- Responsible for estimating work time, writing up list of appropriate and needed materials, and providing such materials for himself/herself or the group.
- Provides guidance and instruction to craft trainees.
