Position: F/T Custodian (Monday - Friday, 3:30pm - 11:30pm)
Reports To: Building Chief
Location: Southern
Closing Date: July 21, 2026

Work Year: 12 Months

FLSA Status: Non Exempt
Performs custodial duties as assigned by the chief custodian or building administrator. Develops and implements custodial services to provide clean, comfortable, healthy, safe, and attractive buildings for students, staff, and visitors.
Minimum Requirements- High School Diploma or Equivalent preferred.
- Must be flexible for shift/schedule changes based on district needs. Management will notify affected employees at least seventy‑two (72) hours in advance, except in emergencies.
- Ability to lift, push, and/or move up to 50 pounds.
- Work in extreme temperatures and/or weather conditions; perform repetitive stooping, twisting, and bending.
- Physical ability to perform essential functions listed below.
- Neat and clean appearance.
- Good moral character, honesty, dependability, and courtesy.
- Ability to get along with adults and students.
- Ability to read, write, and communicate professionally and effectively with staff and students as needed.
- Valid driver's license preferred.
- Clean floors, walls, blinds, furniture, lavatories, classrooms, offices, hallways, common areas, locker rooms, lockers, shelves, fixtures, and glass surfaces.
- Maintain and perform minor repairs of furniture.
- Perform cleaning tasks in the cafeteria area, including: clean kitchen and cafeteria floors, remove filters in hoods, clean range hood, clean bathroom/locker room, clean hand‑washing sinks, clean grease trap, empty trash, mop up spills during lunch periods.
- Deliver government surplus supplies and frozen food cases to storage areas.
- Perform minor maintenance repairs to building facilities, including replacement of small window glass.
- Assist in snow removal.
- Regular attendance is an essential duty of this position.
- Other related duties as assigned.
The employee must be able to lift, push, and/or move up to 50 pounds. This job requires repetitive stooping, twisting, and bending. Work may involve extreme temperatures and/or weather conditions. Required physical activities include frequent standing, walking, and sitting; use of hands and fingers to handle or feel, reach with hands and arms, talk or hear, taste or smell; and visual tasks such as close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth vision.
StandardRequirements
- Satisfactory Criminal Background Check – must be less than 1 year old.
- DE Child Protection Registry Report.
- TB Test Results – must be less than 1 year old.
- Signed Social Security card required by the State of Delaware for payroll purposes (copy to be uploaded directly into your Onboarding Packet).
- I‑9 Form with appropriate forms of identification.
- Mandatory Direct Deposit of paycheck.
