Primary Role
The Utility Person performs a variety of tasks in the operation and maintenance of water distribution and wastewater collection system facilities.
Schedule and Availability
The schedule for this position is Tuesday through Saturday, either 7:30 a.m.
- 4:00 p.m. OR 12:00 p.m.
- 8:30 p.m. Additionally, this position is subject to 24‑hour call‑out and overtime.
- Inspection, operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, installation, and repair of water distribution and wastewater collection system facilities including but not limited to water mains, valves, hydrants, service lines, sewer lines, manholes, service laterals, and pumping and flow control facilities.
- Responding to customer service inquiries including service disruptions, service line problems and grinder pump malfunctions.
- Investigating complaints and determining correction action per company procedures.
- Performing new service activity including tap installation and record keeping.
- Monitoring plant operations as needed, water distribution and wastewater collection systems, and making adjustments as directed to control operations.
- Operating and maintaining plant process equipment as directed.
- Completing all necessary forms, sketches, and field notes, using maps and records.
- Maintaining all necessary records.
- Maintaining tools and equipment; performing light maintenance and light construction duties including repairs and/or improvements to physical plant, custodial cuties, and related building and grounds activities.
- Performing facility mark‑out pursuant to Pennsylvania One‑Call.
- Performing other duties as assigned by Supervisor.
- Knowledge of water distribution/collection systems is a plus.
- Mechanical ability sufficient to understand the operation of pumps, valves, motors, and other mechanical equipment related to operations and maintenance.
Work is in environmental conditions including contact with wastewater, chemicals, fumes, odors and dust as a result of working with handling potentially hazardous wastewater treatment and laboratory chemicals. Exposure to potentially harmful pathogens and gases in raw unprocessed wastewater creating potential for blood borne/airborne disease. Electrical hazard conditions. Exposure to inclement weather mostly of short duration.
Certifications/Licensing- Valid PA Drivers License.
- High School Diploma or GED.
This position may be eligible for annual incentive pay and contracted increases as determined by the collective bargaining agreement, and you will have the opportunity for continued salary growth.
