Job Description

Lisbon Regional School District is seeking a year‑round part‑time custodian to work evenings during the school year and daytime hours during school vacations and the summer. Candidates should be dependable, motivated, and possess good work ethics. Prior custodial experience is preferred and school‑related experience is a plus.

Responsibilities
  • Work with the building principal in developing, establishing, and maintaining an appropriate plan of housekeeping.
  • Cleans the school (e.g., classrooms, offices, restrooms, lunch room, halls, carpet, windows, walls, stage, locker rooms, sidewalks, grounds, etc.) to maintain a sanitary, safe, and attractive school environment.
  • Remove graffiti after reporting it to the building principal.
  • Work with the staff and administration to make the building conducive to good instruction and morale.
  • Oversee efficient use and proper care of tools, equipment and supplies.
  • Cooperate with appropriate authorities to conform with rules and regulations for the safety and health of the staff and student body.
  • Provide general supervision of the physical facilities, including care, operation, and maintenance, and report any major issues to the building principal for: heating, sanitation, parking, walkways, ventilation, electrical/lighting, plumbing, and play/built‑ground systems.
  • Assist the building principal in preparing and implementing the custodial/maintenance budget.
  • Prepare tentative budget estimates for custodial and maintenance activities (supplies, tools, equipment).
  • Submit bills for approval by the building principal for custodial and maintenance activities.
  • Maintain a record of preventative maintenance on equipment and the cost to replace pieces of equipment.
  • Present a budget recommendation for the next school year in early fall.
  • Assume responsibility for minor construction and repairs.
  • Maintain appropriate records and plans for alterations or additions/repairs.
  • Advise the building principal on cost or minor construction and repairs.
  • Prepare plans for minor construction and/or repairs to be performed by custodial/maintenance personnel, consulting outside experts if necessary.
  • Assist the building principal in preparing studies or bidding on needed repairs, renovations, or new construction.
  • Promote good public relations between the school and community.
  • Take pride in presenting buildings and grounds in an exemplary way.
  • Display positive and helpful attitude when interacting with staff, students, parents, and community members.
  • Refer public inquiries to the appropriate channels.
  • Share public comments and criticisms with the building principal.
  • Secure facilities and grounds (depending on shift) – lock doors, turn off lights, set alarms, etc., to minimize property damage, equipment loss, and overall safety.
  • Tend to custodial tasks as needed, preventing safety or health hazards (e.g., shovel/salt/sand steps, walkways, driveways, parking areas, or unsafe playground equipment).
  • Inspect and maintain safety systems (e.g., fire alarm systems) and relevant equipment.
  • Respond to immediate safety and operational concerns (facility damage, alarms, etc.) to resolve issues and maintain a functioning educational environment.
  • Maintain safety procedures that adhere to local, state, and federal requirements.
  • Establish and maintain an adequate plan of operation.
  • Advise the building principal of upcoming maintenance needs.
  • Provide storage for all necessary provisions.
  • Maintain inventory of supplies and equipment.
  • Maintain appropriate record‑keeping for the operation of the facility.
  • Participate in custodial and maintenance services, including tasks requiring light and heavy labor (lifting).
  • Schedule repairs and alterations on a basis of need.
  • Follow all federal, state, and SAU policies, laws, and procedures pertaining to the workplace.
